(ABC News: Che Chorley)<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Become like him one day&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On a mild winter&#8217;s night, as young boys and girls play on grass still wet from the day&#8217;s rain, which has cleared in perfect time for training despite a dreary forecast, the buzz in the air is palpable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Irankunda only played there for a season in 2015, before moving to Parafield Gardens and onto the Adelaide Croatia Raiders Soccer Club, but these kids still look up to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It seems like we have a future here, we can build up, and become like him one day,&#8221; says Joshua, a member of the under-14 boys team at the Northern Wolves.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A group of boys in soccer uniforms huddle together, smiling.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/b356414f573918db4b25bf4549a7631f.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Irankunda&#8217;s success has inspired these younger players. (ABC News: Brant Cumming)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">When he is in Adelaide, he meets up with other Burundian boys every Wednesday night to train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Several of the kids have met the star, with Joshua describing the moment he walked out into the hallway of his house to see Irankunda there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I was just cleaning up the room, because [Mum] said that she had guests over. (ABC News: Che Chorley)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Herman&#8217;s son, Ishmael Itangakubuntu, wants to follow in Irankunda&#8217;s footsteps playing for Adelaide United, and then beyond, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll start with \u2026 Adelaide United, and then I&#8217;ll get higher and higher and higher,&#8221; the 10-year-old says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But for some others, they were not so aware of Irankunda&#8217;s start at the club \u2014 even including one family member, Ella Freeman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know he played here!
