{"id":3506,"date":"2026-05-02T17:54:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T17:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/3506\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T17:54:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T17:54:31","slug":"albanese-governments-state-of-denial-exposed-in-bondi-interim-report-in-highlighting-failure-to-fight-antisemitism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/3506\/","title":{"rendered":"Albanese government\u2019s \u2018state of denial\u2019 exposed in Bondi interim report in highlighting failure to fight antisemitism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The interim Bondi report has highlighted the deep failures of Labor to address antisemitism and threats to our national security, a prominent former Labor MP has warned.<\/p>\n<p>The report, handed down this week as part of the Royal Commission into antisemitism, outlined 14 recommendations aimed at strengthening counter-terrorism coordination and protecting high-risk events.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The federal government has accepted all recommendations and pledged to implement them with the states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But former Labor MP Michael Danby and former Liberal senator Hollie Hughes say the findings point to problems beyond structural reform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They argue the report highlights a lack of focus on the underlying drivers of antisemitism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government would act on the recommendations and ensure a nationally consistent response.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/stream\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"stream\" data-tgev-label=\"stream\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The World According To Rowan Dean is available to watch for SkyNews.com.au subscribers. To become a subscriber, click here.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0Mr\u00a0Danby said the response\u00a0did\u00a0not go far enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve been pointing to the fact that since August 2024, this socialist left government failed to pay sufficient attention to what the Director General of ASIO said,\u00a0and that is upgrade their interests in terrorism against the Jewish community.\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0told Sky News host Rowan Dean.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said warnings about threats to the Jewish community had not been properly addressed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Islamist zeitgeist that they tolerated contributed to the Jihadist crazies thinking that the game was on,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ms\u00a0Hughes\u00a0also raised concerns about how the government has handled the rise in antisemitism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were absolutely in a state of denial about the rise in antisemitism,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Bondi attack, which targeted the Jewish community in December, came after Australia\u2019s terror threat level was lifted to \u201cprobable\u201d,\u00a0indicating\u00a0a heightened risk of an attack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ms\u00a0Hughes said the response to antisemitism has been inconsistent and has placed a burden on the Jewish community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s absolutely disgraceful that the Jewish community have to consistently fund their own security force, to look after kids at preschool and people worshipping at synagogues,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She said government priorities were not aligned with the level of risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey honestly don&#8217;t see the protection of Jewish Australians in the same light that they see protection of those hate preachers screaming about radical Islam,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr\u00a0Danby also pointed to concerns about decision-making at the highest levels of government, including the composition of the National Security Committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes no sense;
