Now, Gus\u2019 grandmother Josie Murray, 75, has spoken for the first time<\/a> as part of a major joint investigation by 7NEWS Adelaide and Spotlight which has revealed new details about what may have happened to the little boy.<\/p>\n Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow<\/a><\/p>\n In a chilling revelation, Murray revealed the four-year-old had gone missing on the property once before.<\/p>\n \u201cShan had taken him down to the Shearer\u2019s quarters while Jess and I were out mustering and he had wandered off… Shan couldn\u2019t find him when she was going to come home,\u201d Murray told 7NEWS Spotlight in the tell-all interview to air on Sunday at 8.30pm.<\/p>\n \u201cShe came home and told us Gus had gone for a walk somewhere… I was the one who found him.\u201d<\/p>\n The Timeline<\/p>\n For the first time, Gus\u2019 family have revealed their own version of events in the crucial hours after the young boy disappeared, as well as the detailed timeline of the search that unfolded on their rural property.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember looking at the watch when we\u2019d put the sheep through into the right paddock, and it was 10 past, and we drove straight back without any holdups. So yeah, right back there at 5.30pm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Murray said after she got home, Gus\u2019 other grandparent, Shannon, said Gus was playing outside.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were on the front veranda and Shan said that Gus was just down near what we call the \u2018bomb shelter plane\u2019, and when we had a look, (there was) no sign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd we said to Shannon, \u2018When did you last see him?\u2019 And she said, \u2018Five o\u2019clock.\u2019 And so in that half\u2011hour timeframe, he disappeared.\u201d<\/p>\n Murray said the family were initially worried about Gus getting into an area where they were building a new cellar.<\/p>\n \u201cWe immediately were a little bit concerned about the cellar we were building, because it was possible he could have fallen down there,\u201d Murray said.<\/p>\n \u201cSo that\u2019s one of the first things we did. We looked… there was no sign that he\u2019d been down there, no blood on the concrete floor, nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n The desperate search before dark<\/p>\n Murray describes how the family scrambled to search the property as daylight faded, checking dams, tanks and outbuildings before making the call to authorities.<\/p>\n \u201cSo we had a quick conference and decided what to do, and we decided we better jump on the bikes and go and look,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what time that was, but after we\u2019d searched on foot, I remember saying, \u2018we\u2019ve got 45 minutes of daylight, we better get with it\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were concentrating within probably three\u2011quarters of a kilometre or a kilometre of the homestead, just searching where the tanks were, the dams, down by the cottage. I think we went to the shearing shed – I\u2019d be surprised if we didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n Murray said as light began to fade, the family regrouped at home to decide their next moves.<\/p>\n \u201cWe kept (the search) up until it was getting to the dark stage, and then we went home and went into the kitchen, and I think the question was raised – \u2018how soon do we notify the authorities that we might have a missing child?\u2019 and we need to do something about it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI seem to recall it was sometime around eight o\u2019clock that we actually made the call.\u201d<\/p>\n What followed was months of searches by police, SES and volunteers covering hundreds of kilometres. <\/p>\n During the investigation that followed, Murray herself was interviewed by police into Gus\u2019 disappearance, but was never charged.<\/p>\n \u201cWe say \u2018how, why\u2019\u2026 we just can\u2019t believe it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be accused of doing something like this\u2026 you could not wish a more horrible experience on anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n 7NEWS Adelaide crime reporter Hannah Foord joins Michael Usher to piece together the timeline and the unanswered questions in one of Australia\u2019s most perplexing missing persons cases.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is the interview that could provide answers to the many questions being asked about the disappearance of little Gus,\u201d Usher said.<\/p>\n \u201cHis grandmother has never spoken before, but in an extraordinary set of circumstances has now given her first interview.\u201d<\/p>\n 7NEWS Spotlight: Missing \u2014 The Gus Lamont Mystery airs tonight at 8.30pm on Seven and 7plus.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tensions over fragile peace deal with Iran\u2019s Hormuz declaration<\/p>\n 2 min read<\/p>\n![\"Joise](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/31ddc1dd160836b83a3d7294066e95dcf9a0d4bc.jpg\")
