Ms Hanson compared Mr Albanese\u2019s fortunes to Sir Keir’s, saying the most pressing issue in the UK was \u201cmass migration\u201d and which she said was being mirrored in Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe big issue in Britain that I can see is about the mass migration, people coming into the country, people just don’t feel they’re British anymore,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur economy is in the toilet actually and I think it’s a mess, a trillion dollar debt, the government spending is out of control\u2026 So it needs to be changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sir Keir formally announced his resignation on Monday, saying he had listened to members of the Labour Party questioning whether he was the right person to lead.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have heard the answer and I accept that answer with good grace. I will resign as leader of the Labour Party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Albanese paid a warm tribute to his British counterpart, describing him as a friend, after attending a Labour Party conference with Sir Keir in 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cI consider Keir Starmer a friend and I’m thinking of him on what must be a very tough day,\u201d Mr Albanese said on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cServing in public life is a tremendous privilege but politics can also be a harsh business.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the time comes for Keir to leave Downing Street, he can be proud of the contribution he has made to the country he loves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Albanese had previously warned the UK against the changing leaders before Sir Keir’s resignation, telling Sky News it would be a bad idea.<\/p>\n
\u201cI must say that the history of just changing leaders is not a positive one. I’ve dealt with already four British prime ministers since I’ve been elected as prime minister,\u201d Mr Albanese said on Sunday.<\/p>\n
When asked whether he would urge stability, Mr Albanese replied: \u201cI think stability is a good thing \u2026 There\u2019s been a lot of chaos has occurred in global politics.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sir Keir\u2019s resignation came after mounting pressure within the Labour Party and speculation that newly elected MP Andy Burnham would replace him.<\/p>\n
Nominations for the Labour Party leadership will open on July 9, with a new leader expected to be in place before Parliament returns in September.<\/p>\n
Mr Burnham has already signalled that he will contest the leadership.<\/p>\n
