What do you buy a bloke who\u2019s got everything?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI might ask my brother Andrew (Johns) if he has a spare autographed Newcastle Knights jersey I could give him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matty Johns is off to the United States for a second time this year for the UFC White House event.Source: News Corp Australia<\/p>\n<p>Johns and White struck up a connection when the NRL great interviewed the UFC President and CEO for Fox Sports in Las Vegas in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe finished the interview and he had ABC (US) and CBS waiting for him and Dana said, \u2018Oh don\u2019t worry about them\u2019 and he then proceeded to take me on a tour of his house for the next hour,\u201d Johns said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen five or six days later the UFC reached out to me and told me I\u2019d be invited to UFC Freedom 250, which of course is on the lawn of the White House, which is great because not much has been happening at the White House, particularly lately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fights will be held in a 2,000 seat arena on the White House South Lawn with roughly half the seats reserved for US military personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be the most incredible thing that I whether they have actually secured accreditation to access the arena.<\/p>\n<p>The 54-year-old will not be the only Australian descending on the US capital for the event.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s greatest ever UFC fighter Alexander Volkanovski will also be in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The world champion and Johns will combine to conduct interviews with well-known fighters and celebrities for Fox Sports in the lead-up to the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch like what I did with James Magnussen during the Paris Olympics in 2024, we\u2019ll be taking viewers behind the curtain of one of the world\u2019s most extraordinary sporting events ever held in the US,\u201d Johns said.<\/p>\n<p>With the annual season opener in Las Vegas, the NRL are on a crusade to show off the game in the US and Johns said he is willing to play a helping hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI might take him a Steeden (football),\u201d Johns said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine that, the US President putting a bomb up, I mean with a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/sharks-star-siosifa-talakai-reveals-tears-shed-over-emotional-call-to-farewell-club-that-saved-his-career\/news-story\/4b9ffda89aef10725119395c5522e5a5\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The Daily Telegraph<\/a> of how he was on the verge of tears with Cronulla Sharks Craig Fitzgibbon as he struggled to make the call to leave the club.<\/p>\n<p>Talakai will join the Perth Bears on a three-year deal next season.<\/p>\n<p>It was a decision that did not come easily to the NSW Origin representative as he wrestled with leaving the club.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old even revealed that he allowed a lucrative contract offer deadline to pass from the NRL\u2019s newest team in the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be here (Sharks) until I was six-feet under,\u201d Talakai said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was something (the decision) that I was avoiding, they\u2019d (Bears) given me two weeks to think about it and it took me well over a month to make a decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just kept coming back to the Sharks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve given me my second chance (after being released by Penrith in 2018).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, you know, I just wanted to be as transparent as I could with the club that\u2019s pretty much given me everything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time I thought about it or had to had spoken about the pros and cons of things with my manager and it was pretty much set (on the Bears),\u201d Talakai said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s another side of footy that people don\u2019t see and it\u2019s a business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is we have so many players off contract and little cap space and that\u2019s unfortunate for myself, but it\u2019s a great opportunity for young players coming through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cOnce I made the decision and got over the tears, I came to tell Fitzy, I was in his office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was close to crying, I
