{"id":37281,"date":"2026-06-24T02:52:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T02:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/37281\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T02:52:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T02:52:17","slug":"adelaide-supermarket-wins-australias-best-croissant-and-sourdough-news-articles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/37281\/","title":{"rendered":"Adelaide supermarket wins Australia\u2019s best croissant and sourdough &#8211; News + Articles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    Frewville and Pasadena Foodlands has Australia\u2019s best croissant, sourdough and baguette in the bag.\n                <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a truth universally acknowledged that residents of inner-city Adelaide in possession of disposable income can and will spend it at Frewville and Pasadena Foodlands.<\/p>\n<p>This duo of supermarkets under the Adelaide\u2019s Finest brand have become local legends for their next-level offerings \u2013 from their dedicated seafood, cheese and salumi bars \u2013 where you can graze in-store over a glass of paired South Australian wine \u2013 to their early adoption of store-wide \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.delicious.com.au\/food-files\/article\/coles-extends-quiet-hour-sensory-challenged-customers\/hjpmwt73\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">quiet hours\u2019<\/a>\u00a0for sensory-challenged shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s the in-house bakeries\u2019 time to make the home crowd proud, taking out a swag of prizes at the Baking Association of Australia\u2019s National Artisan Baking Competition, held this year on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p>As well as taking out best-in-show for their sourdough, the bakery and patisserie teams presented Australia\u2019s best croissant, Danish and baguette at the national awards, which feature the winning bakers from state rounds of judging.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-241249\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/croissant-from-pasadena-and-frewville-241249-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\"\/>Croissants in making at Pasadena and Frewville Foodlands.Credit: Jack Fenby<\/p>\n<p>The supermarkets\u2019 team of qualified pastry chefs and bakers stock the house Breadbars daily with stone-baked bread, pastries, cakes, pizzas, doughnuts, waffles and more.<\/p>\n<p>The winning sourdough was made with the team\u2019s usual recipe, featuring all-organic flour, and the winning croissant featured a 27-layer laminated dough made with French butter from Normandy, started three days out from baking.<\/p>\n<p>Head baker Peter Soteriou (previously of the acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delicious.com.au\/travel\/australia\/gallery\/best-regional-bakeries-south-australia\/jicj70u0?page=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Uraidla Bakery<\/a> in the Adelaide Hills), head pastry chef Tharindu Ranatunga (who trained in five-star hotels in Dubai) and head of production Robert Trimboli travelled up to Queensland with the precious cargo.<\/p>\n<p>The third-generation managing director of Adelaide\u2019s Finest, Spero Chapley, credits his father with putting the first in-supermarket bakery to work in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-241250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/the-bakery-at-pasadena-and-frewville-supermarkets-241250-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\"\/>The in-house bakery at Adelaide\u2019s Finest.Credit: Jack Fenby<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time Adelaide\u2019s Finest\u2019s bakeries have risen to the occasion, having been back-to-back winners at the Royal Adelaide Show and dominating at the SA Baking Awards, but the National Artisan win proves they\u2019re not loafing about on the Australia-wide stage either.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the competition, Adelaide\u2019s Finest took out a total of 10 trophies, with the full list below:<\/p>\n<p>Champion Product of Show: Multigrain Sourdough<br \/>\nChampion Sourdough Loaf: Multigrain Sourdough<br \/>\nChampion Viennoiserie: Croissant<br \/>\n1st Place Sourdough (Multigrain)<br \/>\n1st Place Open Specialty Viennoiserie (Danish)<br \/>\n1st Place Croissant<br \/>\n1st Place Baguette<br \/>\n1st Place Ciabatta Loaf (min. 200g)<br \/>\n2nd Place Traditional Rye Sourdough (min. 680g)<br \/>\n2nd Place Traditional White Sourdough (min 600g)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delicious.com.au\/travel\/australia\/gallery\/best-regional-bakeries-south-australia\/jicj70u0?page=8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Related story: We\u2019ve found 12 of the best regional bakeries in South Australia<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Frewville and Pasadena Foodlands has Australia\u2019s best croissant, sourdough and baguette in the bag.
