Dozens of people have been evacuated after a major fire tore through a storage facility in Sydney\u2019s<\/a> southwest.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were called to reports of the blaze at a Storage King facility in Chipping Norton on Wednesday afternoon with 30 people calling emergency services about the out-of-control fire.<\/p>\n

About 120 firefighters and 30 fire trucks were sent, with crews working to contain the fire.<\/p>\n

7NEWS helicopter footage shows thick black smoke billowing into the sky as flames continue to engulf the facility.<\/p>\n

One witness told 7NEWS she fled after hearing three explosions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree explosions I heard \u2026 and we just all ran out because we were frightened,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Another said the fire spread rapidly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of a sudden there were just fire engines we heard, and the next minute I\u2019d go and have another look, just blank smoke just pouring out all the time,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fire and Rescue NSW said firefighters were battling fierce flames and zero visibility inside the facility.<\/p>\n

One man tried to fight the blaze with a small hose before bystanders intervened.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe grabbed a guy that was trying to put out the fire,\u201d a witness said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just dragged him out because his whole life\u2019s burning away as well and told him it\u2019s not worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blaze has caused significant losses, with personal belongings and commercial property believed to have been destroyed.<\/p>\n

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area, while nearby businesses are being asked to remain alert to emergency activity.<\/p>\n
