A group\u2019s alleged littering at a pristine beach has sparked fury among a Sunshine Coast community, with one local telling the culprits to \u201clearn some respect\u201d.<\/p>\n
A large pile of bottles, cans and other rubbish was allegedly recently left behind on a beach track near Wurtulla, along with a receipt from a well-known fast food chain.<\/p>\n
Venting his frustration over the discovery, a local man posted pictures of the items to a Sunshine Coast Facebook page as he called out a female customer whose name was clearly displayed on the receipt.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo [name redacted] (dumb enough to leave her name on a GYG receipt) and her friends that decided to have a party at Wurtulla life guard track,\u201d the man wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cForgot to clean up their mess, broken bottles out on the road, up the path and all over the board walk lookout.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou and your friends need to learn some respect for our beaches and some discipline, obviously something your parents didn\u2019t teach you.\u201d<\/p>\n
After cleaning up the group\u2019s mess, the man said he would \u201clove to say a lot of colourful words and what I\u2019d do if I caught you grubs\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut this wouldn\u2019t get posted on this page,\u201d the man wrote in his post to the Sunshine Coast SurfCheck page.<\/p>\n
In Queensland, unlawfully depositing waste can lead to hefty fines, depending on the offence.<\/p>\n
Individuals can face penalties of between $333 and $277,888 under the state\u2019s Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.<\/p>\n
Sunshine Coast Council advises that people can report littering by visiting the Queensland Department of Environment and Science website.<\/p>\n
Illegal dumping, which is defined as the disposing of waste material of 200 litres or more in volume, can also be reported via the council\u2019s website.<\/p>\n
\u201cLocals and visitors agree it’s not OK to use our community as a dumpsite! But a small number of people are spoiling our natural areas for everyone else,\u201d the council\u2019s website reads.<\/p>\n
Other locals echoed the Facebook poster after he called out of the littering at Wurtulla, with one commenter saying they are \u201calways picking up rubbish on the beach\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes name and shame its pathetic no excuses,\u201d another Facebook user wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome parents are definitely to blame for their children’s behaviour. Coming from the no respect no rules generations,\u201d a person commented.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe should be given hours of beach clean up to learn a lesson!!\u201d another user said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDisgusting grubs,\u201d a further person wrote.<\/p>\n
