{"id":38395,"date":"2026-06-25T10:48:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T10:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/38395\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T10:48:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T10:48:10","slug":"irgc-agents-lived-in-australia-before-directing-attacks-on-jewish-targets-spy-chief-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/38395\/","title":{"rendered":"IRGC agents lived in Australia before directing attacks on Jewish targets, spy chief says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) \u2014 Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used two agents who once lived in Australia to direct arson attacks against Jewish targets in Sydney and Melbourne, the head of Australia\u2019s domestic spy agency said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran continues to view Australia as a legitimate target for covertly directed acts of violence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/australias-spy-chief-antisemitism-left-unchecked-after-oct-7-became-normalized\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Burgess<\/a>, director-general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO), said.<\/p>\n<p>Australia last year\u00a0blamed Iran\u00a0for fires that damaged Lewis\u2019 Continental Kitchen, a kosher eatery in Sydney, and Melbourne\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/police-charge-3rd-suspect-in-2024-melbourne-synagogue-arson-allegedly-directed-by-iran\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adass Israel Synagogue\u00a0<\/a>two months apart in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>A major diplomatic rift led to Iran\u2019s ambassador being expelled.
