{"id":39017,"date":"2026-06-26T07:05:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/39017\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T07:05:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:05:07","slug":"debate-grows-over-afl-listed-talent-in-wafl-aligned-sides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/39017\/","title":{"rendered":"Debate grows over AFL listed talent in WAFL aligned sides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peel Thunder put on a \u201cfrightening\u201d performance against East Perth in Mandurah on the weekend, with 15 AFL-listed players ensuring a 142-44\u00a0victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Post-game\u00a0confusion\u00a0set in\u00a0about the\u00a0rules surrounding stars from the top level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>East Perth player Corey Watts was on the field\u00a0last\u00a0Saturday\u00a0and claimed that\u00a0there is no rule\u00a0that AFL-aligned\u00a0WAFL teams\u00a0must\u00a0include only\u00a0a certain number of AFL-listed players on game day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just\u00a0want to\u00a0clear that up,\u00a0because\u00a0it seems to be a bit of a rumour that it\u2019s this hard rule that they can only have 14 players during the season,\u00a0and that is not the case whatsoever\u201d, he said on WAFL World Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, if Peel wants to, there is no rule by the commission to say that it can\u2019t be 17 Fremantle players running around\u00a0if\u00a0it fits in their points cap\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When he spoke\u00a0to his co-hosts on the show, he was met with surprise, revealing that there were no rules on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is breaking news.\u00a0I always understood that was a rule of the commission, that you could only have\u00a0a max of\u00a014\u201d,\u00a0Chris Mitsopoulos responded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/wafl-league-pt-v-ep-20.6.26-8533-46dd78c7b576-edited-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11374\" style=\"aspect-ratio:16\/9;object-fit:cover\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Peel Thunder undoubtedly made use of their 15 AFL-listed players, securing a\u00a0monster\u00a0win over East Perth.<\/p>\n<p>Mitsopoulos\u00a0was in attendance and was rather surprised by what he witnessed down in Mandurah Saturday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a frightening performance by Peel Thunder.
