Patrick Beach\u2019s incredible FIFA World Cup campaign has been recognised in unforgettable fashion, with St Kilda Beach temporarily renamed Patrick Beach following the Socceroos\u2019 qualification for the knockout stages.<\/p>\n
In partnership with Melbourne City, the City of Port Phillip has announced the iconic Melbourne landmark will carry its new name for the remainder of Australia\u2019s World Cup campaign, celebrating both Beach\u2019s emergence on football\u2019s biggest stage and the Socceroos\u2019 historic run.<\/p>\n
The initiative comes after Australia\u2019s 0-0 draw with Paraguay secured a place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32, with Beach playing another important role between the sticks to record his second clean sheet of the tournament.<\/p>\n
Beach has been one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, helping the Socceroos reach the knockout stages for just the third time while proudly representing both Melbourne City and Australia on the biggest stage.<\/p>\n
As part of the celebrations, St Kilda Town Hall will also be illuminated in green and gold, while plans are underway for a Patrick Beach mural overlooking the foreshore.<\/p>\n
Melbourne City CEO Brad Rowse said the temporary renaming was a fitting way to recognise both Beach\u2019s achievements and the Socceroos\u2019 World Cup campaign.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou spend years developing players and hope they make a World Cup squad. Having a beach renamed after one of them wasn\u2019t something we\u2019d planned for, but we\u2019re happy to take it,\u201d Rowse said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPatrick has captured the imagination of football fans around the country, and we\u2019re incredibly proud to see him representing both Melbourne City and the Socceroos on the biggest stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
