Sutherland took on heavyweight veteran Tai Tuivasa<\/a>

\nUFC Perth<\/a> on Saturday. \u201cThe Vanilla Gorilla\u201d outgrappled
\nTuivasa for three rounds amidst a sea of boos to earn a unanimous
\ndecision win. The Englishman revealed that his victory over Tuivasa
\nwas the first time that he paid heed to his corner mid-fight in
\nquite some time.<\/p>\n

The bulky Brit Sutherland stated that he lost his composure and
\nignored his training partners in his recent last knockout loss to
\nBrando
\nPericic<\/a>. While Sutherland knows that he can brawl when he wants
\nto, it was crucial to earn his first Ultimate Fighting Championship<\/a> victory.
\nSutherland admitted in his post-fight interview:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve listened to my coaches is probably about
\nsix fights,\u201d Sutherland said sheepishly. \u201cAnd that\u2019s the result.
\nAgainst Brando, I lost my composure, didn\u2019t listen to the corner.
\nMy corner\u2019s like, \u2018Look, we know you can brawl, you\u2019re an MMA
\nfighter, in the gym day in day out.\u2019 I can do it all. It\u2019s just
\ntaken me 16 pro fights to show it. Who doesn\u2019t like a knockout or a
\nfinish at least? But I was here to get the win, get my money, go
\nhome, feed the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sutherland (11-5) made his UFC debut on short notice last year
\nagainst Valter
\nWalker<\/a>, who tapped him out with a heel hook. Sutherland\u2019s
\nsubsequent outing came against the aforementioned Pericic, which
\ndidn\u2019t go his way either. Meanwhile, Tuivasa (14-10) is now on a
\nseven-fight losing streak, one shy of the company record held by
\nTony
\nFerguson<\/a>. Nevertheless, Tuivasa has claimed he plans to fight
\non, regardless of if he remains on the roster or not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that I’m good enough to compete in
\nthis division.\u201d<\/p>\n

Louie Sutherland outworked Tai Tuivasa to get the decision nod and
\nsecure his first win in the Octagon.
