New photographs reveal the cramped room where Australian man Simon Peter Carman allegedly murdered Thai teenager Tunchanok Donhomla.<\/p>\n

Police allege the 45-year-old picked up the 17-year-old near Pattaya Beach in the early hours of June 25.<\/p>\n

Australian arrested in Thailand<\/a><\/p>\n

A 45-year-old Australian man is in custody after the body of a teenage girl was found in a suitcase in Thailand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her body was found two days later, stuffed inside a suitcase that had been dumped near railway tracks about a 10-minute drive from Mr Carman’s hotel.<\/p>\n

Photos obtained by the ABC show Ms Tunchanok’s unnamed friend inside Mr Carman’s cluttered hotel room the day after she went missing.<\/p>\n

Other photos show a pink bow stuck on the front door, piles of clothing on the couch and ironing board, paper and water bottles on a small table, and several empty rum bottles on top of the fridge.<\/p>\n

The ABC understands the friend was there searching for the 17-year-old, whose nickname was “Cake”, after lodging a missing persons report with police.<\/p>\n

But by that time, the teenager was already dead.<\/p>\n

Mr Carman was arrested last Friday by Thai police at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and has been charged with murder, concealing and moving a body, and taking a minor aged between 15 and 18 for sexual purposes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He has denied the allegations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bar manager remembers Carman<\/p>\n

More details have also emerged about Mr Carman’s movements in the days and hours before Ms Tunchanok was killed.<\/p>\n

Kanyarat Duangdao, the manager of Marina 2 Bar and Grill in Pattaya, told the ABC she witnessed Mr Carman the night he met Ms Thanchanok.<\/p>\n

He was with a different girl at the bar around 1am, she said, and he was drunk. She said he left the bar alone about an hour later.<\/p>\n

Another witness said they saw Mr Carman approach Ms Thanchanok and two of her friends on a beachside street about 3am.<\/p>\n

Thai teen’s family grieving<\/a><\/p>\n

The woman who rented the room to Mr Carman told the ABC he had been staying in the building since late 2025 and moved to his current room in February.<\/p>\n

While living there, he appeared to lead a normal life, the woman said, speaking to the ABC on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

She said she knew Mr Carman to be a farmer in Australia and that when he visited Thailand, he would often swim, eat out at restaurants and was friendly with people.<\/p>\n

Moving suitcase raised suspicion<\/p>\n

Police have alleged Mr Carman confessed to strangling Ms Tunchanok until she lost consciousness before keeping her body in the bathroom until that evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CCTV allegedly shows him dragging a large suitcase from his room at about 9:25pm, strapping it to a motorcycle and riding away before returning to the accommodation about 35 minutes later.<\/p>\n

Police Colonel Srathongyu said it was Mr Carman carrying a suitcase via a rear elevator that first raised suspicion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the 45-year-old returned to the hotel about 20 minutes later without the suitcase, police suspected a crime.<\/p>\n

“We tracked him down until we found information that he was about to flee the country. We had to rush to find the suitcase.”<\/p>\n

Because Ms Thanchanok was a minor, Police Colonel Srathongyu said, officers were able to stop Mr Carman leaving the country by arresting him for child abduction while they searched for the suitcase.<\/p>\n

Australian suspect in Thai murder case<\/a><\/p>\n

Australian Simon Peter Carman “lived his normal life”, going out, washing his clothes and talking to neighbours after allegedly murdering a teenage girl and stuffing her body inside a suitcase in Thailand, police say.<\/p>\n

Police Colonel Srathongyu also revealed details of Mr Carman’s life in Thailand, telling the ABC that he had come to the country as a tourist and had rented the hotel room for a year.<\/p>\n

“He has no prior criminal record; we have never received any reports of criminal offences regarding him,” he said.<\/p>\n

According to immigration records, he said, Mr Carman had successfully applied for an extension when his initial visa expired.<\/p>\n

“He stated that he likes Thailand, wants to travel, and wants to come here to relax.”<\/p>\n

Mr Carman will remain in custody for up to 84 days, Police Colonel Srathongyu said, while police continue gathering evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A judge must approve his continued detention every 12 days.<\/p>\n
