Brisbane<\/a> draftee Koby Evans is under AFL<\/a> investigation for an alleged homophobic slur in the VFL on Saturday.<\/p>\n

7NEWS understands Evans is alleged to have made a comment to a Coburg opponent which was escalated to officials.<\/p>\n

Evans, 18, apologised on field for his actions and again following the match.<\/p>\n

Both clubs held conversations post-game on Saturday night and the matter now sits with the AFL.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been made aware of a matter arising from the VFL Round 6 match between Coburg and the Brisbane Lions, which has been referred to the AFL integrity unit,\u201d the AFL told 7NEWS in a statement.<\/p>\n

Brisbane confirmed they were in dialogue with the AFL and Coburg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club is aware of the incident and has been working with Coburg and the AFL on it,\u201d the Lions told 7NEWS in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club has confirmed the player has apologised multiple times \u2014 on field and again post match.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe player is extremely remorseful and takes full responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club is disappointed the incident has occurred, while supporting and educating the player.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evans was drafted with pick 38 in last year\u2019s AFL draft and has played five VFL matches with the Lions.<\/p>\n

This latest investigation comes just two weeks after the completion of St Kilda forward Lance Collard\u2019s own homophobic slur saga.<\/p>\n

Collard was given a nine-match sanction (two games suspended) by an AFL disciplinary tribunal.<\/p>\n

After appealing the outcome, the Saints had Collard\u2019s ban reduced<\/a> to a four-match sanction (two games suspended) by the AFL Appeals Board.<\/p>\n

It was Collard\u2019s second homophobic slur ban in the space of three seasons. He was given a six-match ban in 2024.<\/p>\n

Since the start of 2024, Port Adelaide\u2019s Jeremy Finlayson (three matches), Gold Coast\u2019s Wil Powell (five matches), West Coast\u2019s Jack Graham (four matches), Sydney\u2019s Riak Andrews (five matches) and Adelaide\u2019s Izak Rankine (four matches) have also received bans for homophobic slurs.<\/p>\n
