Seven months on from one of South Australia<\/a>\u2019s largest search operations, police say the hunt for answers in the disappearance of four\u2011year\u2011old August \u2018Gus\u2019 Lamont remains active \u2014 but there are still no major breakthroughs.<\/p>\n

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, at his family\u2019s remote Oak Park Station near Yunta<\/a>, where a family member told police he had been playing outside while his grandmother cared for his younger brother inside.<\/p>\n

Despite a massive multi\u2011agency search involving drones, helicopters, mounted officers, ground crews and Indigenous trackers, the only confirmed clue remains a single footprint found about 500m from the homestead.<\/a><\/p>\n

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens on Monday acknowledged the weight of the case on both the family and the wider community, saying there were many people \u201cintensely interested in an outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of those tragic stories that we would like to be able to provide more clarity to \u2014 not just family members who are severely affected by the disappearance of Gus, but the broader community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we don\u2019t have any further updates at this point in time. The taskforce operating within Major Crime Investigation Branch are continuing their work. I\u2019ve not had a specific update in regard to their activities for the last couple of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stevens confirmed police still intend to return to the property \u201cat some time in the future,\u201d but no date has been set.<\/p>\n

The case was declared a major crime in early February<\/a> after detectives identified a person living at the station as a suspect.<\/p>\n

Police have repeatedly stressed that neither of Gus\u2019s parents are suspects.<\/p>\n

In February, Josh and Jess Lamont released a raw public plea<\/a>, describing their lives as \u201cshattered\u201d and begging anyone with information to come forward. \u201cEvery moment without him is unbearable,\u201d they said, releasing new video and another photograph of their son in the hope it might jog someone\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n

Gus\u2019s grandmother, Shannon Murray, has also maintained hope. Through her lawyer, Casey Isaacs, she said she continues to support the investigation and \u201chopes that some information comes to light soon\u201d.<\/p>\n

The disappearance has deeply affected the tiny outback community of Yunta \u2014 fewer than 100 people \u2014 where locals, volunteers, SES crews, ADF personnel and specialist trackers spent weeks combing the harsh terrain.<\/a><\/p>\n

Police have said\u201cnothing is off the table\u201d as Task Force Horizon continues to pursue new leads, but the seven\u2011month milestone has again landed heavily on a family and community desperate for answers.<\/p>\n
