{"id":44946,"date":"2026-07-06T03:18:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T03:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/44946\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T03:18:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T03:18:18","slug":"jane-hume-downplays-looming-threat-of-one-nation-as-wealthy-developer-donors-abandon-victorian-liberal-party-in-droves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/44946\/","title":{"rendered":"Jane Hume downplays looming threat of One Nation as wealthy developer donors abandon Victorian Liberal Party in droves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Liberal leader Jane Hume has downplayed the threat of One Nation at the next federal and Victoria elections as wealthy donors abandon the Coalition in droves.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hume rejected claims that One Nation was the biggest election threat to Labor and that the opposition was putting forward a \u201ccredible team\u201d at the next federal election.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberal Senator said it was something One Nation \u201csimply cannot do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Labor want to get out there and box on with One Nation, good luck to them,\u201d she told Sky News First Edition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re going to be making sure that we&#8217;re talking to Australians about what&#8217;s important to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes as One Nation rakes in huge donations from wealthy businesspeople, particularly Melbourne\u2019s private property developers, who had only donated to the Liberal Party in the past.<\/p>\n<p>A One Nation spokesperson told SkyNews.com.au that all donations were duly reported to Australian Electoral Commission requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s evident some people who may have previously donated to other parties are now donating to One Nation; we welcome their support to help us fight this toxic Labor government,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne Nation will contest every seat at the Victorian state election with a strong team and good policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to The Sydney Morning Herald, One Nation\u2019s latest support stems from entrepreneurs tied to small-to-medium sized businesses who are advocating against the Allan government\u2019s controversial property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The masthead said the major wealthy donors shift away from the Coalition to One Nation was confirmed by five sources familiar with the Liberal Party\u2019s fundraising activities in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Two sources said at least one high-net-worth Melbourne property developed pledged a six-figure sum in the hopes to repeal the vacant property tax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was at a recent event and a property developer secured oral assurances that particular policy settings would be changed if One Nation was in parliament,\u201d one source said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/98044d3b438f270a8e48cf5677781f49.jpeg\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Anthony Albanese tries to tie the Coalition and One Nation into \u2018one bundle\u2019\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ms Hume was asked about the shift in major donor support but refused to concede it was a concern for the Liberal Party in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ll be ready to fight the next election in Victoria in November. There&#8217;s no doubt about that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hume said Opposition Leader Jess Wilson and her team in a had been campaigning every day across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy state of Victoria is the ultimate canary in the coalmine for what a bad Labor government can do when it mismanages the economy,\u201d Ms Hume said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#8217;t need to look too far to see that. Our unemployment rates are higher. Our growth is slower. Our auction clearance rates in the last weekend were down to around 20 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a corrupt, genuinely corrupt, Labor government in Victoria.
