{"id":4552,"date":"2026-05-04T13:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T13:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/4552\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T13:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T13:25:11","slug":"globalise-the-intifada-event-scrapped-after-immense-pressure-on-sydney-mayor-clover-moore-who-blames-media-for-discourse-of-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/4552\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Globalise the Intifada\u2019 event scrapped after immense pressure on Sydney Mayor Clover Moore, who blames media for &#8216;discourse of division&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sydney Mayor Clover Moore has decided to cancel the \u201cGlobalise the Intifada\u201d event on the first day of hearings at the Royal Commission into the Bondi terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Moore \u201cpulled the pin\u201d on the controversial event, which was set to take place in a government building on Tuesday night, blaming the media and its &#8220;discourse of division&#8221; for stopping the event.<\/p>\n<p>The event was advertised as \u201cwhy it&#8217;s right to say: globalize the Intifada\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Due to \u201cgrave concerns\u201d from the Jewish community and mounting backlash from community leaders, as well as former prime minister Tony Abbott, Ms Moore caved to the pressure.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/news\/nsw\/globalise-the-intifada-forum-in-sydney-gets-shut-down-after-intense-public-backlash\/news-story\/2e8c579abe2a26025498e8b31da0bdcf\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"2e8c579abe2a26025498e8b31da0bdcf\" data-tgev-label=\"news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to The Daily Telegraph<\/a>, the forum was demanding the right to say the slogan \u201cGlobalise the Intifada\u201d after a NSW Parliamentary Inquiry recognized it as a call to violence against Jews.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Jewish Board of Deputies president\u00a0David Ossip said it was \u201centirely appropriate\u201d that the City of Sydney Council had refused to provide a venue for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mayor\u2019s decision is the right one, particularly in light of further inflammatory and dangerous social media activity today from one of the event\u2019s scheduled speakers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe phrase \u201cGlobalise the Intifada\u201d has been recognised by a NSW Parliamentary Inquiry as a call to violence against Jewish Australians. It essentially means kill or maim a Jew wherever you find one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Ms Moore said her priority was to work to ensure everyone \u201cfeels welcome\u201d in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5be0bfb1bd55bb1a69add5a8133f2c3f.webp\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"\u2018Out of depth\u2019: Clover Moore slammed for support of Harbour Bridge pro-Palestine protest\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat work has been all the more challenging as the impact of violence in the Middle East has left many hurting and afraid,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAntisemitism, Islmaophobia and anti-Palestinian racism has risen.
