{"id":4654,"date":"2026-05-04T21:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T21:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/4654\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T21:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T21:36:09","slug":"three-dead-including-two-rescue-volunteers-after-ballina-boating-accident-on-nsw-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/4654\/","title":{"rendered":"Three dead including two rescue volunteers after Ballina boating accident on NSW coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Three people have died after a boating accident at Ballina on the northern NSW coast, with a search continuing for survivors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Two of those who died were volunteers from the local Marine Rescue Unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Emergency services were contacted about 6:15pm on Monday, after a member of the public reported a yacht having difficulties off the South Ballina breakwall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Marine Rescue NSW responded, but its vessel rolled as it crossed the Ballina Bar in rough conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In an early statement, NSW Police said three people had died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">One man had to be winched to safety by a rescue helicopter and was treated for chest injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Three other people made it to shore without assistance and were taken to the Lismore Base Hospital for observation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley has paid tribute to the volunteers, saying they put their own lives at risk to help others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I think it&#8217;s important that we remember everybody&#8217;s family and friends at this time,&#8221;
