Four busy WA licencing centres will be keeping their doors open longer to give customers more flexibility throughout the week.<\/p>\n
Typically, West Australians trying to access Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure services are only able to do so from 8:15am to 4:30pm on weekdays.<\/p>\n
Following a successful trial last year, the State Government has extended these opening hours at the Cannington, Success, City West and Mirrabooka centres. They will now be open from 7:15am to 5:00pm on weekdays, allowing customers more time to visit before school or after work.<\/p>\n
Last year\u2019s nine week trial revealed a significant wait time reduction at participating metro centres in Cannington, City West and Mirrabooka.<\/p>\n
Average wait times were lowered by 36 per cent after the opening hours were extended.<\/p>\n
Assistant Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski said the goal was to offer people more time to visit WA\u2019s \u201cbusiest\u201d metro centres, without needing to take time off work or school.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cook Labor Government has made it easier for people to access DTMI services by offering more flexible and convenient opening hours,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also currently exploring options to deliver our election commitment of a new DTMI Service Centre in the Armadale\/Byford area that will provide all DTMI services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Currently, around one in five customers in Perth\u2019s south-eastern corridor are driving up to 40 minutes to attend the Cannington and Success DTMI centres.<\/p>\n
The State Government confirmed $4 million would be set aside for the new centre in Armadale or Byford last year to alleviate the pressure off existing metro centres.<\/p>\n
