Hundreds of commuters are stranded on platforms in Melbourne\u2019s southeast after an emergency incident at a Bayside suburb.<\/p>\n
Trains on the Sandringham line were suspended about 8am on Tuesday after an emergency services incident at Brighton. <\/p>\n
A Department of Transport spokeswoman said the incident was \u201cunder the control of Victoria Police\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cServices will resume when investigations are complete and it\u2019s safe to do so.\u201d <\/p>\n
Buses replaced trains between Elsternwick and Sandringham \u2014 trains between Flinders St and Elsternwick continued with delays.<\/p>\n
A commuter told the Herald Sun she was forced to drive into work because of the chaos. <\/p>\n
\u201cWas at Elsternwick station \u2014 have decided to drive to work as they weren\u2019t clear on how long the delays were,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe train was just idling \u2014 it wasn\u2019t moving at all.\u201d <\/p>\n
Authorities are urging passengers to consider using a combination of local bus routes 923, 600 and 603 to connect with trains.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe ask passengers to check station platform displays and listen for announcements, and allow additional time for their journey,\u201d the spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n
Traffic was expected on surrounding roads \u201cdue to a train stopped in the area\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cDrivers should use a combination of Beach Road, South Road and Hampton Street.\u201d <\/p>\n
