{"id":47974,"date":"2026-07-10T07:49:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T07:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/47974\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T07:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T07:49:13","slug":"no-parking-signs-turfed-into-creek-at-mount-barker-hospital-redevelopment-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/47974\/","title":{"rendered":"No parking signs turfed into creek at Mount Barker hospital redevelopment site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Council staff have to fish temporary &#8220;no parking&#8221; signs out of a creek in Mount Barker after tradies vented their frustration at a lack of space for their vehicles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The steel signs had been erected along residential streets surrounding a key public hospital redevelopment site in the Adelaide Hills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The area has been inundated with workers&#8217; vehicles since construction began in mid-2025 \u2014 to the frustration of residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s terrible,&#8221; a resident of Deer Avenue told <a class=\"Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/listen\/programs\/adelaide-mornings\/mornings\/106886686\" data-component=\"Link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">891 ABC Adelaide<\/a> roving reporter Troy Sincock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Three or four weeks ago, you would have come in here and you wouldn&#8217;t have been able to get a truck up the street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There&#8217;s cars on both sides, over driveways, people giving no consideration for people who&#8217;ve got to get in and out of their driveways or, if they&#8217;ve got a caravan, they can&#8217;t get in or out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Even a small trailer, you have trouble getting in and out with.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;And it&#8217;s not just in front of your home either. (891 ABC Adelaide: Troy Sincock)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The resident said Mount Barker District Council had worked to minimise congestion by erecting temporary &#8220;no parking&#8221; signs that restricted parking to one side of certain streets between 9am and 4pm on weekdays, which had helped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But the council last night posted an image on its social media site depicting a handful of the signs thrown into Duck Flat Creek.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Plenty of other no parking signs had been knocked over and thrown aside in various locations around the site as well.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"no parking sign on the ground next to colourful fence\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/d841951af255e6c65555f67d57ef40bb.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">No parking signs have been knocked over at other locations in the area as well. (891 ABC Adelaide: Troy Sincock)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Council Mayor David Leach said &#8220;council staff had better things to do than fish parking signs out of Duck Flat Creek&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It would have taken a ute or a trailer to move that quantity of signs; they&#8217;re not tiny items that fit into the back of your car,&#8221;  he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Someone&#8217;s gone to a fair amount of trouble to do this and, while it may seem amusing to some, I can assure whoever did it that they&#8217;ve attracted the attention of SAPOL and it&#8217;s a criminal offence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said the council was working to come up with an &#8220;equitable solution that looked after the contractors, the people who live in those streets, the very valued medical staff, and the people who just have to get around that part of town&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Boosting capacity<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The $365.8 million New Mount Barker Hospital Development is taking place on the existing hospital site and will boost its capacity from 34 to 102 beds.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A graphic render of a three-storey hospital project in a quiet town\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/9409292e657f2f5c745c7d470c4b4213.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">An artist impression of the Mount Barker hospital redevelopment, due for completion in 2028. (Supplied: SA government)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Construction started mid-2025 and will include a multi-storey car park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The new main hospital building is due to be completed at the end of 2027, but demolition and final works will continue into 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The existing hospital remains open 24 hours a day, with temporary speed and lane restrictions in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Some 891 ABC Adelaide listeners sympathised with the tradies, pointing out on the text line that they could not park too far away from the worksite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;How can the tradies do their work if they can&#8217;t park? It&#8217;s not just walking to work. They have to carry all their tools&#8221; \u2014 Jody, Woodcroft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Where do they think people are gonna [sic] park to build a bloody joint? Unbelievable&#8221; \u2014 Anonymous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Why not park at the oval and have a shuttle bus to work?&#8221; \u2014 Anonymous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Wonder how many people are clogging the local supermarket carpark now that they&#8217;ve been restricted around the hospital?
