{"id":48348,"date":"2026-07-11T03:57:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T03:57:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/48348\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T03:57:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T03:57:22","slug":"wodonga-raiders-ordered-to-redraw-raffle-after-committee-member-wins-70k-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/48348\/","title":{"rendered":"Wodonga Raiders ordered to redraw raffle after committee member wins $70k prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A north-east Victorian sports club has been forced to redraw a major fundraising raffle after a committee member won the major prize.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Wodonga Raiders Football and Netball Club, which competes in the Ovens and Murray League near the Victorian-NSW border, sold 2,500 tickets in its raffle with a $70,000 ute as the first prize.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The raffle was live-streamed on social media on June 6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Later that week, the club revealed the handover of the major prize was on hold after it discovered the winner, a committee member, was ineligible. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The matter was referred to the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC), which ordered a redraw on July 16.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;A redraw is necessary to ensure compliance with Victorian raffle requirements,&#8221; a VGCCC spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Organisations (community or charity) that hold raffles may need to apply for a permit, depending on the total value of the prizes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the VGCCC grants a permit, the raffle must be run in accordance with the conditions of the permit.&#8221;Back to the draw<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The terms and conditions of the raffle excluded committee members, those directly involved in the raffle, and their relatives, meaning they were not allowed to enter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The original live-stream of the draw has been removed from the club&#8217;s Facebook page, however promotional videos remain online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;No additional tickets have been sold or added to the raffle,&#8221; a statement reads on the raffle website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A statement on the website, which hosted the raffle, said every ticket sold, that had not been refunded, would be included in the redraw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Wodonga Raiders president Zennon McCarty confirmed with the ABC that some tickets, which cost $100 each, were refunded after the initial draw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">When asked how ineligible raffle tickets were initially included in the first draw, Mr McCarty said: &#8220;It just slipped by us.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A north-east Victorian sports club has been forced to redraw a major fundraising raffle after a committee member&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":48349,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[22,21,35373,35374,35372,35375,35371],"class_list":["post-48348","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-au","tag-austrlia","tag-raffle","tag-raffle-redraw","tag-victorian-gambling-and-casino-control-commission","tag-wodonga-raiders","tag-wodonga-raiders-football-and-netball-club"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48348","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=48348"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48348\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/48349"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=48348"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=48348"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=48348"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
