{"id":48440,"date":"2026-07-11T06:50:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T06:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/48440\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T06:50:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T06:50:16","slug":"bail-refused-for-man-accused-of-damaging-ev-charging-stations-across-the-central-coast-and-newcastle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/48440\/","title":{"rendered":"Bail refused for man accused of damaging EV charging stations across the Central Coast and Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A man has been refused bail after being charged with damaging EV charging stations across the NSW Central Coast and Newcastle regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Dylan Hyland, 29, was arrested in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Kahibah, after police seized 17 EV charging plugs, large bags filled with stripped cables, cutting tools and a taser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A vehicle allegedly used in the incidents was also seized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Hyland is facing a total of 26 charges relating to damage to multiple charging stations between June 12 and June 30, at locations including Gosford, Erina, Tuggerah, Newcastle, Hamilton, Swansea and Raymond Terrace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Defence lawyer Danka Durovic made a formal application for Mr Hyland&#8217;s release.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Black plastic garbage bags filled with red, white and yellow cables.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1a3fc947c38222cdf508b13a10fef9e8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Police seized multiple bags full of stripped cables. (Supplied: NSW Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But police prosecutor Simon Steward said the case against Mr Hyland was strong and opposed bail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There&#8217;s a distinctive white Ford Ranger truck that&#8217;s been located nearby or at the sites of where the copper cables or infrastructure have been damaged and then taken,&#8221; Mr Steward said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It would appear there is a similar sort of offending at each of those sites, where the cables have been removed and then transported away in that Ford Ranger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Steward argued Mr Hyland&#8217;s release would endanger the community and that there was a significant risk of serious offending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Durovic told the court Mr Hyland had connections with his community, was a practising Jehovah&#8217;s Witness and attended church services on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She said Mr Hyland would accept any bail conditions imposed by the court, including that he not go within 100 metres of an EV charging station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Metal handles with black tips inside a large white bag.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/c5b1497be45cf1c682b54c812af53395.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Police allege 17 EV charging plugs were found at a home at Kahibah, near Newcastle. (Supplied: NSW Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Hyland also addressed the court directly, pleading for his release from custody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll do whatever it takes,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;m not a bad person.
