{"id":49062,"date":"2026-07-12T17:49:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T17:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/49062\/"},"modified":"2026-07-12T17:49:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T17:49:21","slug":"liberal-mp-urges-voters-to-back-a-royal-commission-arguing-jacinta-allan-will-go-to-every-length-to-cover-up-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/49062\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberal MP urges voters to back a Royal Commission, arguing Jacinta Allan \u2018will go to every length\u2019 to cover up corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Victorian Coalition has intensified its attack on Jacinta Allan over the state\u2019s Big Build corruption scandal, as they call for a Royal Commission into allegations of government interference.<\/p>\n<p>Shadow Industrial Relations Minister Brad Rowswell said Victorians had reached the point where only a Royal Commission could uncover the full extent of corruption linked to the state&#8217;s\u00a0infrastructure projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His comments come after Ms Allan was referred to Victoria&#8217;s anti-corruption watchdog over\u00a0allegations\u00a0she personally intervened to enable corruption while serving as Transport Infrastructure Minister.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Premier has rejected wrongdoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rowswell said Ms Allan had spent years overseeing Victoria&#8217;s infrastructure program and could not distance herself from what had unfolded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jacinta Allan has been either Premier or responsible for Victoria&#8217;s big build for a very long time,&#8221; he told Sky News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That puts her at the centre of the crime and corruption in our state.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Liberal MP said the Coalition would\u00a0establish\u00a0a Royal Commission if elected in November, arguing it was the only way to restore public confidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re a Victorian, and you are disturbed by the crime and corruption that has been free for all under Jacinta Allan over the last 12 years, vote Liberal, vote National at the state election for a\u00a0Royal\u00a0Commission,&#8221;\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s as simple as that.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rowswell accused the Premier of resisting further scrutiny because she feared what a broad inquiry could uncover.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This premier will go to every length to cover up crime and corruption because she knows that if she opens up the option of a\u00a0Royal\u00a0Commission here in Victoria, it will be a Pandora&#8217;s box of problems,&#8221;\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The criticism comes after leading corruption expert Geoffrey Watson SC wrote to Ms Allan accusing her of &#8220;deliberately misleading people&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0suggested\u00a0he had backed away from his estimate that CFMEU corruption on Victoria&#8217;s Big Build had cost taxpayers about $15 billion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Watson insisted he stood by the figure and again urged the Premier to\u00a0establish\u00a0an inquiry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Calls for a Royal Commission have also grown inside Labor, with reports several MPs privately believe an inquiry is inevitable and should be\u00a0established\u00a0before a future Coalition government sets its own terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rowswell said the Premier&#8217;s handling of the allegations had fallen\u00a0short of the standard Victorians should expect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;ve\u00a0got an allegation of a\u00a0ministerial\u00a0office interference and pressure to get CFMEU contractors lined up\u00a0&#8230; and the Premier can&#8217;t even check her own records,&#8221;\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The standards are completely different.
