{"id":50001,"date":"2026-07-14T01:03:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T01:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/50001\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T01:03:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T01:03:13","slug":"operator-of-former-perth-restaurant-penalised-after-failing-to-back-pay-staff-hospitality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/50001\/","title":{"rendered":"Operator of former Perth restaurant penalised after failing to back-pay staff\u00a0 &#8211; hospitality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">A former Perth restaurant operator and the company behind the venue have been fined more than $50,000 for failing to back-pay staff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0Federal Circuit and Family Court imposed a penalty of $27,935 against GCH Vic Park Pty Ltd which operated The Globe Pan and Grill in East Victoria Park.\u00a0Jay Patel, the company\u2019s director, has been fined $5,587.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fair Work Ombudsman says the penalties were imposed after the company failed to follow a compliance notice requiring it to calculate and back-pay 18 cooks and food and beverage attendants. Patel was also involved in the breach.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court has also ordered the company to pay $18,720 in compensation to the workers, as well as interest and superannuation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GCH Vic Park was first investigated by a regulator as part of a proactive auditing campaign.\u00a0The Fair Work inspector believed that the company had underpaid\u00a0multiple full-time, part-time, and casual staff, and consequently issued the compliance notice in July 2023. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inspector formed the belief the employees were\u00a0variously underpaid minimum wage rates, penalty rates for weekend work, and accrued but untaken annual leave entitlements when their employment ended.
