The next few days are proving critical for an Adelaide<\/a> mother who has spent almost a year in Germany hoping for life-saving surgery, with doctors refusing to proceed until she can pay up front.<\/p>\n

Silvia Signore, 54, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer two years ago, and after treatment failed in Australia, her only chance for survival took her all the way to Germany.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, look, if you can get yourself over there, that will give you a better chance,\u201d Signore said.<\/p>\n

The Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany offers world best practice for surgery and treatment for Signore\u2019s condition, but the cost has been devastating for the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sacrifice is enormous. I\u2019ve had to sell assets. It\u2019s also taking money out of our direct business accounts,\u201d son Jake Pinksterboer said.<\/p>\n

Despite launching a GoFundMe campaign, Signore is still more than $50,000 short of what\u2019s needed for the procedure.<\/p>\n

The hospital has made it clear the surgery won\u2019t go ahead unless she pays the full amount up front, leaving the family in a desperate race against time.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy greatest fear if I don\u2019t get the surgery would be palliative care and dying, pretty much,\u201d Signore said.<\/p>\n
