Fresh polling shows support for One Nation is tumbling after a month of scandals involving its longest-serving parliamentarians, including leader Pauline Hanson.<\/p>\n
Sky\u2019s latest Pulse\/YouGov poll, taken between July 7-14, found One Nation\u2019s primary vote dipped four points to 26 per cent as Labor regained the top spot as Australia\u2019s most popular party at 28 per cent.<\/p>\n
The Coalition also climbed three points to 20 per cent, while the Greens came in at 12 per cent.<\/p>\n
Senator Hanson also took a personal hit to her popularity, suffering a five-point fall to 35 per cent against Anthony Albanese\u2019s 54 per cent.<\/p>\n
The results tallied with a Resolve Political Monitor poll published earlier this week that put the tumble down to immigrants and women being put off by Senator Hanson\u2019s call for a monocultural Australia and her rebuke of paid parental leave.<\/p>\n
Since she made those headline-dominating remarks, she has also spurred backlash by meeting with controversial figures in the UK.<\/p>\n
Last week, she appeared on a podcast with Stephen Yaxley-Lennon \u2013 a British far-right activist with ties to Russian propagandists and a string of convictions ranging from assault to passport fraud.<\/p>\n
Mr Yaxley-Lennon, who goes by the moniker Tommy Robinson, praised Senator Hansen as \u201cone of the bravest lady\u2019s (sic) on the planet\u201d.<\/p>\n
A few days later, Senator Hanson appeared on another podcast with former British prime minister Liz Truss, whose tenure as leader was famously outlasted by a lettuce.<\/p>\n
In that interview, Senator Hanson said of detractors: \u201cHow about we just round them all up and give them an island somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Truss quipped that the UK had already tried that with Australia.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, her longest-serving parliamentarian, Malcolm Roberts, has also drawn criticism for calling American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones \u201ca beacon of hope across the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
For decades, Mr Jones peddled falsehoods to tens of millions until he was forced into liquidation in 2024 after being found liable for defamation over his claims the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was staged and \u201cno one died\u201d.<\/p>\n
He eventually acknowledged the shooting did happen and was ordered to pay $US1.5bn to the families of the 20 children and six staff murdered.<\/p>\n
Senator Roberts appeared on Mr Jones\u2019s show shortly before it went off air and claimed \u201cunelected parasites who are fronts for big corporations, who are fronts for a few people that own them and control them\u201d were pushing the \u201csame basic policies\u201d across the Anglosphere, drawing on a conspiratorial trope with anti-Semitic roots.<\/p>\n
\u2018Eternity of pain\u2019: Taylor rules out ON alliance<\/p>\n
Angus Taylor has ruled out joining forces with One Nation after weeks of senior opposition figures tiptoeing around the question.<\/p>\n
Speculation had grown out of the Coalition\u2019s historically low polling figures.<\/p>\n
But in a media appearance on Tuesday night, the Opposition Leader said there was no chance of an alliance and One Nation would inflict \u201can eternity of pain\u201d on Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m ruling it out,\u201d Mr Taylor said, adding that there was \u201cno plan to form any kind of coalition with One Nation\u201d.<\/p>\n
He went on to attack the populist minor party\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne Nation would, as a government, leave us with an eternity of pain,\u201d Mr Taylor said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have a grab bag of policies, where even just a small subset of them would take this country into a fiscal crisis, higher inflation, higher interest rates, higher mortgage costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s not something Australians can afford when we are in the midst of an economic crisis of Labor\u2019s creation.\u201d<\/p>\n
