A woman found dead inside a Central Queensland residence had an apparent head injury, with police now treating her death as suspicious and appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything unusual to come forward.<\/p>\n
Police said the 32-year-old woman was found during a welfare check at a Denham St property in Rockhampton about 1.15pm on Thursday, with investigators focusing on the ground-floor residence in a row of shopfronts that had been converted into homes.<\/p>\n
Regional crime co-ordinator Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said officers went to the address after a relative of one of the residents asked police to check on them.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice attended that location and found a dead female within that residence,\u201d Superintendent Shadlow said.<\/p>\n
Superintendent Shadlow said the woman \u201cappears to have a head injury\u201d, although the extent of that injury was still not known.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is some blood pooling around her head, hence the reason we believe the injury,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said forensic officers were still examining both the woman\u2019s body and the crime scene, and it was \u201ctoo early to speculate\u201d on exactly what caused the injury or how severe it was.<\/p>\n
Police believe the woman had been dead for more than a day by the time officers arrived but said that would be confirmed through a post-mortem examination.<\/p>\n
Investigators spent the night speaking with people and doorknocking the area again on Thursday, while homicide detectives were also assisting with inquiries.<\/p>\n
Superintendent Shadlow said police had spoken to a 32-year-old man, believed to be the woman\u2019s partner, who was living at the address with her.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe assisted us with our inquiries yesterday and until last night. However, at this stage, nothing further has come from that \u2026 he has not been charged with any offences relating to this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police said the woman had recently moved to the Rockhampton area from interstate.<\/p>\n
Asked whether domestic violence was being examined as part of the investigation, Superintendent Shadlow said police were considering it, but it was too early to draw conclusions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe consider that with every investigation, especially a suspected homicide investigation. We certainly look at that from a very early stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also confirmed there had been a previous call to the address for a domestic violence incident \u201csome time ago\u201d but said investigators were still working to establish whether it was related.<\/p>\n
Despite the major police response, Superintendent Shadlow said there was no ongoing risk to the community.<\/p>\n
Police are urging anyone who noticed anything suspicious around the Denham St residence from the start of the week, including unusual people, yelling, fighting or movement near the front or rear entry, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.<\/p>\n
