{"id":52834,"date":"2026-07-17T21:52:23","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T21:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/52834\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T21:52:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T21:52:23","slug":"most-united-party-in-the-country-one-nation-senator-sean-bell-dismisses-claims-barnaby-joyce-and-pauline-hanson-are-at-odds-over-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/52834\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Most united party in the country\u2019: One Nation Senator Sean Bell dismisses claims Barnaby Joyce and Pauline Hanson are at odds over leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Nation Senator Sean Bell has rejected suggestions of a split between Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce after the party leader suggested her daughter could eventually become her successor.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson made the comments during an interview with British right-wing activist Tommy Robinson, in which she praised Lee Hanson\u2019s political potential but said she would have to earn the support of the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The comments renewed speculation about the future leadership of One Nation, with former Nationals leader Mr Joyce previously viewed by some as a\u00a0possible successor\u00a0after joining the party last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Mr Bell dismissed claims of internal tension, saying One Nation remained focused on its political agenda rather than reports about disagreements within the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne Nation&#8217;s strong, we&#8217;re united, and we&#8217;re focused on getting results for the Australian people,\u201d Senator Bell told Sky News\u00a0on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, that&#8217;s where our heads are at. You look at the fantasy that some left-wing media are publishing, and you sort of just, you have to shake your head. Because it is a distraction. They&#8217;re attempting to distract from the real issues, and that is the Albanese Labour Government&#8217;s failure to keep energy prices under control.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bell said claims of division were being pushed by political opponents and the media to distract from issues One Nation believed were important to voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne Nation is the most united party in the entire country,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you&#8217;re looking for division, look no further than the Liberal Party.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Joyce also rejected suggestions of a breakdown in his relationship with Ms Hanson, saying the pair remained close.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPauline and I are great mates. We spoke yesterday, we spoke exactly about what people are trying to do, trying to divide us up,\u201d Mr Joyce told Nine&#8217;s Today show on Friday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re not dumb, we&#8217;ve both been around.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Between the two of us it is about 50 plus years in politics. We&#8217;ve played this game before, and we get along very well and I&#8217;m very happy in the role I&#8217;ve got.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPauline&#8217;s doing a great job as the leader.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to The Age, sources close to Mr Joyce claimed the former Nationals leader privately criticised Ms Hanson\u2019s decision to appear with Mr Robinson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He is said to have claimed it showed a lack of understanding about how the move could be received by voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One Nation and Mr Joyce have rejected the claims.<\/p>\n<p>One source familiar with One Nation\u2019s internal dynamics described growing unrest within the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s falling apart rapidly. Barnaby and Pauline are in constant disagreement,&#8221; the source said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one likes Malcolm (Roberts) and everyone is keeping their eyes on (James) Ashby. Throw Lee\u2019s ascension to the throne into the mix and it\u2019s not a happy place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The comments came after Ms Hanson\u2019s appearance on Mr Robinson\u2019s podcast, where the pair discussed migration, national\u00a0identity\u00a0and concerns about the future direction of Australia and Britain.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Ms Hanson said her daughter had surprised her when she decided to enter politics before the last federal election.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0cluey\u00a0kid.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0quite smart and highly respected \u2013 in the positions that\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0held, wherever\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0worked, they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want to lose her,\u201d Ms Hanson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe took a cut in wages to come across. She said: \u2018I know that if I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0stand up \u2026\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0frightened of where the\u00a0country\u2019s\u00a0going.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0great to work with her.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0the future.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0got the softer approach.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether Lee Hanson could eventually lead One Nation, her mother said there would be no special treatment because of their family connection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s\u00a0got the potential, but I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0believe in nepotism. And she\u00a0has to\u00a0prove herself \u2013 not only to me, but also to the other members and to the public, and everything like that,\u201d\u00a0she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s something she has to earn.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bell also defended Ms Hanson\u2019s decision to meet with Mr Robinson, saying the One Nation leader was standing up for Australian values during her overseas trip.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fully support Senator Hanson. She is the strongest leader Australia has ever had,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is overseas speaking at\u00a0CPAC,\u00a0and she is standing up for Australian values.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe knows that our country faces challenges like never before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson\u2019s UK trip has attracted criticism following her meeting with Mr Robinson and a visit to his hometown of Luton, where she said she was surprised by the changes she saw.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m gobsmacked because I wouldn\u2019t think that I was in England,\u201d Ms
