Police shot dead Freeman in a rural Victorian town near the NSW border in March<\/a>.<\/p>\nSeven months earlier, Freeman fatally shot Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart in Porepunkah \u2013 about 150km away from where he was finally discovered.<\/p>\n
Detectives from Victoria Police\u2019s Taskforce Summit on Friday morning arrested a 58-year-old NSW woman in the Bairnsdale area.<\/p>\n
The arrest was made \u201cas part of their ongoing investigation into the movements\u201d of Freeman following the Porepunkah shooting, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Police will interview the woman, they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investigation remains ongoing and as such, we are not in a position to provide further details at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Freeman, 56, died on March 30 at a property in Thologolong after being fatally shot by heavily armed police following an hours-long standoff.<\/p>\n
Police at the time said the fugitive was given every option to leave peacefully, but refused to do so before brandishing a gun at officers.<\/p>\n
It brought to a close a seven-month operation to find Freeman, who had been on the run since August 26, 2025.<\/p>\n
In September last year, specialist police combed through bushland, caves, mineshafts, huts and gorges in the hunt.<\/p>\n
