stuck in third place for eighth straight poll as Labor leads One Nation as most popular party

Labor leads One Nation as the most popular political party in Australia as the Coalition fails to rise out of third position for the eighth straight Sky News Pulse poll.

The latest Sky News Pulse / YouGov poll, conducted between April 28-May 5, 2026, showed Labor increased its primary support by three points to 30 per cent.

While One Nation dropped three points to 24 per cent, the party is still in second place ahead of the Coalition on 21 per cent.

The Coalition has failed to lift itself out of third place behind One Nation and Labor for eight straight polls.

New leadership and a major immigration policy announcement have not shifted voter sentiment.

The Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan-led Coalition increase the opposition’s primary support by a single point since the April 22 Sky News Pulse.

The Coalition remained under sustained pressure in the polling, failing to capitalise on declining support for Labor and the growing cost of living crisis.

Compared to three months ago, 47 per cent of people said their financial situation had gotten worse, with 46 per cent saying either they didn’t know or there was no change.

At the same time, about 1 in 3 voters called on the Albanese government to cut spending in the upcoming budget, pay down public debt and avoid further inflation.

This was overwhelmingly preferred to the roughly 1 in 10 voters who said they would prefer income tax cuts in the federal budget on May 12.

In leadership measures, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese maintained a 45-36 lead over Opposition Leader Angus Taylor on preferred prime minister rankings.

Mr Albanese also led One Nation leader Pauline Hanson as preferred prime minister with an even more commanding result of 54-35.

The Prime Minister recorded a net negative approval rating of -14 per cent compared to -4 per cent for the Opposition Leader.

Amid the shifting political dynamic, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has revealed she would be willing to do a deal with the Coalition in exchange for certain policy demands.

Ms Hanson told Sky News she would be prepared to support a Coalition government if it helped remove Labor from office.

“My main aim is to get rid of this toxic Labor-Greens-Teal government,” Ms Hanson told Sky News.

“Now if the Coalition requires our numbers we are quite happy to give them supply and confidence.

“But I don’t want any ministry positions because you’re not going to tell us how we should vote on legislation or control
