A truck driver who shed two 15-tonne concrete slabs onto the North-South Motorway at Bolivar, injuring pedestrians, has been reported and stripped of his licence for 12 months.<\/p>\n
Just after 10.30am on Friday July 10, vehicles merged into the southbound lane in front of a truck laden with two 15 tonne concrete slabs.<\/p>\n
Dramatic footage of the incident showed the two concrete segments falling into the roadway and colliding with three cars parked on the side of the road.<\/p>\n
Two pedestrians were standing next to a broken-down vehicle on the shoulder of the road and were struck by the parked cars.<\/p>\n
One of the pedestrians was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected broken arm.<\/p>\n
Two other people sustained minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Following an investigation by SAPOL\u2019s Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit, the truck driver who allegedly caused the crash, a 38-year-old Para Hills West man, was reported for causing harm by dangerous driving, using a mobile phone while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and a severe risk load restraint breach.<\/p>\n
The truck driver was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and will be summonsed to court at a later date.<\/p>\n
