But if you don\u2019t go, he said if we find you, you\u2019ll never get back in the country again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver two million took that one-way ticket and 600,000 they had to round up. So, fine, I think that&#8217;s a great way of doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to recent figures released under freedom of information, <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/australia-news\/politics\/more-than-77000-people-illegally-living-in-australia-new-figures-reveal-after-coalition-promises-immigration-crackdown\/news-story\/8a7717f95e88ad1ffd47fa66f2b89169?fbclid=IwY2xjawTLwGxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFScEpmQ1VZeVR5WGFHcWlTc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHr8-8dMjZ6p-fb3XKgt1XHxiSCOlcnOAMxCXNUwy7v8OUpenQ62CkRT_hj5t_aem_rf3z4kZpugq20NqQysFZUg\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"8a7717f95e88ad1ffd47fa66f2b89169\" data-tgev-label=\"australia-news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">about 77,700 people were living in Australia illegally at the end of last financial year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson\u2019s comments come as immigration remains one of the strongest issues for voters, with One Nation ranked number one to tackle the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/australia-news\/politics\/voters-continue-to-turn-to-one-nation-as-preferred-party-on-immigration-with-62-per-cent-of-australians-backing-cuts-to-migration\/news-story\/63f68de144c0f59b587a59db00884d45\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"63f68de144c0f59b587a59db00884d45\" data-tgev-label=\"australia-news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May Sky News Pulse \/ YouGov poll<\/a> found 36 per cent of Australians viewed One Nation as the political party best placed to manage immigration.<\/p>\n<p>The same poll found 62 per cent of voters wanted migration reduced, including 44 per cent who wanted a \u201cbig decrease\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The polling came after Labor revised migration forecasts upwards, with net overseas migration expected to reach about 1.2 million people between 2025 and 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson also responded to critics on Tuesday, pushing back against claims she supported a \u201cWhite Australia\u201d policy.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson said her position was based on selecting migrants who would integrate into Australian society, rather than only white people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about skin colour, it\u2019s not about your race, colour, creed. It\u2019s who you are, that you stand up for the values and for this nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hanson was responding to <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/australia-news\/politics\/false-allegations-one-nation-leader-pauline-hanson-rejects-white-australia-claims-after-backlash-over-podcast-comments\/news-story\/a949037b982856fdbd870a66d8324d82\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"a949037b982856fdbd870a66d8324d82\" data-tgev-label=\"australia-news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\">claims she endorsed White Australia policy in an interview with far-right UK activist Tommy Robinson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asked in the interview about where issues with Pakistani and African migrants began, she pointed to the end of White Australia policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it started in 1973 with Gough Whitlam, so they opened up and got rid of the White Australia policy. Then they started bringing in the different migrants,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people came out after the Second World War, say Italians, Germans, Polish and these people, but they integrated into the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of them couldn\u2019t speak English, but they learnt to speak English. They had to go and work. A lot of them came\u2026 with only a pound in their pocket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut over the decades, as the governments have changed\u2026 a lot of people come in to Australia purely for the welfare system or to get on our NDIS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of them are ripping the system off who are a lot from the Muslim areas and they&#8217;re getting on the scheme, but there&#8217;s a lot of Aussies too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke later condemned Ms Hanson, suggesting she had advocated for a return to White Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never thought when I entered parliament that in my political lifetime anyone who had been elected to parliament would be calling for White Australia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of saying you love Australia is to love Australia for who we are. Not some perverted concept of a country where we would turn on each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also lashed out at Ms Hanson, suggesting she had said removing the White Australia policy was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen Senator Hanson\u2019s comments that say that Australia has got it wrong when we moved away from the White Australia policy in 1973,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to recognise that the movement away from White Australia wasn\u2019t just the Labor government\u2026 it was actually a bi-partisan position that began in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cModern Australia is made up of, with the exception of First Nations people, people who\u2019ve come from all over the world to make Australia their home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrejudice is something that isn\u2019t normal, isn\u2019t intrinsic to human endeavour, it\u2019s something that is taught.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolitical leaders have a responsibility to promote social cohesion in this country and that\u2019s what I want to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from London over the weekend, Ms Hanson rejected White Australia and said people were trying to discredit her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I\u2019m in London about to attend a dinner, but I had to bring to your attention the comments by the Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know those two leftist organisations that want to try and destroy myself and One Nation and discredit me?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re false allegations that I wanted to introduce the White Australia policy. Not the case.
