{"id":55833,"date":"2026-07-22T06:13:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T06:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/55833\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T06:13:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T06:13:16","slug":"pauline-hansons-dv-two-way-street-comments-slammed-as-dangerous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/55833\/","title":{"rendered":"Pauline Hanson\u2019s DV \u2018two-way street\u2019 comments slammed as \u2018dangerous\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Nation leader Pauline Hanson says domestic violence is a \u201ctwo-way street\u201d and women \u201cshouldn\u2019t put up with it\u201d, while her colleague Barnaby Joyce has called for men to \u201cbe cool\u201d and channel their inner James Bond after five women have allegedly been killed by men this month.<\/p>\n<p>On the same morning a 16-year-old Perth boy was charged with allegedly murdering his mother and attempting to kill his sister, <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.couriermail.com.au\/truecrimeaustralia\/police-courts-qld\/police-domestic-violence-chief-amanda-brownhill-vows-to-take-up-battle-against-scourge\/news-story\/4e35a730b3644f0648f01abf878147da\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"www.couriermail.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"4e35a730b3644f0648f01abf878147da\" data-tgev-label=\"truecrimeaustralia\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ms Hanson was asked by 4BC about domestic violence<\/a>, and said it was \u201cwrong, but it\u2019s also a two-way street\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying that it\u2019s just men, women can lose their cool as well \u2026 Everyone is under so much pressure and it\u2019s really hard. I don\u2019t think we communicate enough with each other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDomestic violence is a scourge but look \u2026 I\u2019ve been through it myself in my life. And I just feel if you\u2019re not in a house where you feel safe \u2026 Then you shouldn\u2019t put up with it. If these women are getting abused by men out there, then don\u2019t put up with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said Ms Hanson\u2019s comments were \u201cirresponsible and dangerous\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Hanson has a voice and she is using it to send a message to victims that violence is their fault and to those that use violence that it\u2019s excusable. We all experience pressures in life, violence is never the answer,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaying women should just leave completely misses the point. It\u2019s the most dangerous time. It\u2019s when they are more likely to face escalated or lethal violence. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Hanson should focus on how we better support survivors, rather than belittling them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Joyce earlier told the same radio station the golden rule for men was \u201cwalk out before you lose your top\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s in everything we do. You haven\u2019t got style. If you blow your horn in traffic, it means you\u2019re not cool, it means you haven\u2019t got control of yourself, it\u2019s not stylish,\u201d he told 4BC. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust be cool. James Bond is loved in the cinemas because he keeps it all together, and the blokes who lose their bottle have no style.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHitting a woman \u2026 is disgraceful, it\u2019s disgusting. I\u2019m just trying to start the metaphor \u2026 be attracted to people who can handle pressure. And style is not losing your mind with other human beings, and it starts in the traffic. Be cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Australian Femicide Watch, 38 women have allegedly died by male violence already this year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Perth mother found dead on Tuesday, another four women have been allegedly killed by men this month: an unnamed teenage girl, 13-year-old Layla Jeffrey, new mum Jana Armstrong, and mum-of-two Lavanya Chappa. <\/p>\n<p>The<a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.couriermail.com.au\/news\/queensland\/domestic-violence-crisis-spirals-as-government-slashes-tens-of-millions-in-funding\/news-story\/0816f2185f59c508c5fbdae09cabd63c\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"www.couriermail.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"0816f2185f59c508c5fbdae09cabd63c\" data-tgev-label=\"news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Queensland government has come under scrutiny for its slashing of domestic and family violence prevention funding <\/a>by tens of millions of dollars. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, new research by Anglicare Sydney out on Wednesday found the cost for people fleeing domestic and family violence has risen by 71 per cent since 206. <\/p>\n<p>Based on comparative analysis on the immediate costs of leaving including bond, moving truck rental and temporary accommodation, and the flow-on costs, the price has soared from $4098 to $7017. <\/p>\n<p>Claire Dunlop from Anglicare said the figures were confronting. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many victim-survivors, leaving already takes enormous courage. What this research shows is that financial barriers are becoming another obstacle to safety.
