A homeless man\u2019s body has been found inside a makeshift shed destroyed in a fire in Nambour.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called about 7pm on Tuesday after \u201can explosion was heard by a neighbouring property\u201d, prompting police and fire crews to rush to the scene.<\/p>\n
Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said the shed was already ablaze when emergency crews arrived, but firefighters brought the fire under control within about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n
Once the fire was out, a body was found inside the shed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe male has yet to be identified due to the circumstances of the fire, but we believe it is a male, potentially aged around his 60s,\u201d Inspector Mansfield said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have no information to clarify that at this point in time \u2026 it will be some time off before we are able to identify the cause of death.\u201d<\/p>\n
The man is believed to have been homeless and known in the local community.<\/p>\n
Inspector Mansfield said the timber-frame shed with metal cladding appeared to be home-built and standing on privately owned land held by a company. <\/p>\n
The block, he said, bordered parkland and sat behind commercial properties on Howard St.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s effectively a scrubland with bush land around it. It\u2019s unkept, but it\u2019s owned by a company,\u201d Inspector Mansfield said.<\/p>\n
Police said they had spoken to a number of witnesses and believed they were \u201con the right track\u201d to identifying the dead man.<\/p>\n
But Inspector Mansfield said it would be inappropriate to confirm his identity before further processes, including next-of-kin notifications, were completed.<\/p>\n
Asked whether investigators were looking at the possibility of an arson attack, Inspector Mansfield said police were keeping an open mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything will be a line of inquiry for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Investigators are now speaking with local businesses and reviewing any available CCTV from surrounding properties. <\/p>\n
