{"id":56165,"date":"2026-07-22T18:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T18:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/56165\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T18:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T18:14:16","slug":"harry-young-artist-wins-top-community-art-prize-with-perth-entertainment-centre-tribute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/56165\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Young: Artist wins top community art prize with Perth Entertainment Centre tribute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">For the second year running, local sculptural and digital artist Harry Young has claimed the City of Joondalup\u2019s top community art prize.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Young was awarded the most outstanding artwork prize at the City of Joondalup\u2019s 2026 Community Art Exhibition for his work Remember Me, a concrete sculpture depicting the former Perth Entertainment Centre, which was demolished in 2011.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The winning work was selected from close to 200 artworks on display at Westfield Whitford City as part of the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Young won the same award last year for his concrete sculpture Forbidden Skate Ramp, a work depicting Perth\u2019s iconic Telstra building in the CBD, and received the 2013 artist in focus award, earning him a solo exhibition with the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The award\u2019s judges commended Young\u2019s 2026 sculpture for its technical craftsmanship and its exploration of nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis artwork is technically outstanding for its chosen medium of concrete and made stronger for its conceptual pairing with ideas of site and place,\u201d the judges said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cEngaging with nostalgia and our local memory of infrastructure, the artwork is interestingly placed in this shopping centre context, and among a greater context of Perth\u2019s urban development and renewal projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/27e904b8753ae10b97c17b82fde3677863d8dfc7.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Young\u2019s sculpture depicting the former Perth Entertainment Centre. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconHarry Young\u2019s sculpture depicting the former Perth Entertainment Centre.
