A police officer has been shot while responding to an incident on the Fraser Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officers were called to an incident on Horizon Court in Yengarie, west of Maryborough, just after 3pm following reports of a disturbance.<\/p>\n
Police say one of the officers was shot in the leg while officers attempted to engage with a man at the property.<\/p>\n
It is understood the officer is in a stable condition and has been transported to hospital.<\/p>\n
An emergency declaration has been made under the Public Safety Preservation Act in relation to the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The exclusion zone encompasses Lake Drive, Meadow Drive, and Mary View Drive along the Mary River in Yengarie.<\/p>\n
Ergon has cut electricity to the suburb as the police operation continues.<\/p>\n
Residents are being urged to stay indoors, and members of the public are being urged to avoid the area.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Queensland Police Union said a 36-year-old constable had sustained a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n
“He is receiving expert medical care, and the QPS is taking responsibility for notifying his immediate family,” the statement read.<\/p>\n
