Barnaby Joyce\u2019s wife Vicki Campion has banned the ABC\u2019s 7:30 report from their rural property after accusing the ABC of speculating whether the couple\u2019s barking dog, Stella, really existed.<\/p>\n
The rescue dog made national headlines this week after the One Nation MP shouted at the working dog on live television.<\/p>\n
But after 7:30 host Sarah Ferguson speculated over whether it was all a ruse to avoid a question, Ms Campion let rip in a lengthy Substack post. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cFor years, I have personally set up cameras, lights and internet connectivity to assist Sydney media to interview Barnaby, often without ever so much as a thank you,\u201d Ms Campion said in a Substack post.<\/p>\n
\u201cNever again. ABC 7.30 is banned from my property.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Barnaby wants to do it, he can do it in Sydney or Canberra, in a studio where lights and microphones and cameras are done for him, just as they are for Ferguson, where he is at least on equal footing to a host who thinks she knows more about our farm than we do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Campion, a former journalist, said it was her call and she would stand by it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBarnaby is a big boy and can take the heat. But it is one thing for Ferguson to cast a live stream into my house, and then question whether my dog exists,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe might not have heard the barking, thanks to noise-cancelling audio, but I could.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Campion said that a frequent comment on one of the many viral posts since her husband yelled at the dog has been \u201cWhy did Barnaby take his dog to an interview?\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe didn\u2019t take our dog to the interview. The interview came to her farm where she was working,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAgainst my advice, the One Nation MP for New England agreed to do an interview over Zoom with the taxpayer-funded ABC 7.30 show.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ABC cast their line into our property and then, from their sanctimonious $1.1 billion a year palace, attacked us for it.<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry we aren\u2019t a television studio; we are a working farm, and this is what it sounds like.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn ABC studio has a technician organising your audio and microphone, another technician lighting you perfectly and framing you, and yet another doing your make-up and hair.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Campion said that a result of the advent of Zoom interviews background noise can now be dialled down with a click.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor nearly seven years, on a rural block with limited power and even more limited phone coverage, we have easily done thousands of interviews from our front verandah, with a series of extension cords, or on top of a hill, when we don\u2019t need light, where we have phone signal,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have a budget for professional studio lighting. I\u2019ve used everything from the headlights of a truck to light him, to big torches perched on children\u2019s swingsets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Campion claimed some city-based ABC producers had previously asked her to turn down the sound of local fauna.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce, a Sydney-based television producer actually asked me if I could stop the cicadas in the bush around us from chirping. Another asked if I could do anything about the crickets,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe media are always talking about \u201cbridging the divide,\u201d but as soon as they have a clear line of sight to someone on the other side of the creek, they spit on
