{"id":57863,"date":"2026-07-24T19:33:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T19:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/57863\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T19:33:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T19:33:18","slug":"editorially-justifiable-abc-stands-by-program-calling-for-sexually-graphic-violence-against-gina-rinehart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/57863\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Editorially justifiable&#8217;: ABC stands by program calling for sexually graphic violence against Gina Rinehart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ABC has defended a\u00a0Race Around the World episode which called for graphic violence against Hancock Prospecting boss Gina Rinehart.<\/p>\n<p>The short film, <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/business\/media\/abc-refuses-to-remove-race-around-the-world-short-film-after-violent-and-sexualised-remarks-targeting-gina-rinehart\/news-story\/465817d88b3eb7796798114c22107e0a\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"465817d88b3eb7796798114c22107e0a\" data-tgev-label=\"business\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\">which aired on the taxpayer-funded broadcaster earlier this month<\/a>, featured remarks about a &#8220;revolution&#8221; before describing an attack on the billionaire businesswoman in explicit terms.<\/p>\n<p>The four-minute film, titled &#8220;A Very Relaxing Video&#8221;, was created by Race Around the World contestant Kate McGuinness while filming in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>The segment included a sexually violent reference to Australia&#8217;s richest woman.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because when the revolution comes, will you hide under the bed? Or will you know exactly how to shove a stick right up Gina Rinehart&#8217;s butthole,&#8221; the film said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stirring it around, mixing her guts up nice and smooth, making her into one big sausage roll to make something out of nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When approached for comment, an ABC spokesperson told SkyNews.com.au the film was &#8220;intended to be satirical&#8221; and therefore &#8220;editorially justifiable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Race Around the World features films created by amateur filmmakers, whose contributions reflect their own viewpoints and creative treatments,&#8221; they said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While contributors are not ABC journalists, all content broadcast by the ABC is subject to the ABC&#8217;s editorial standards, policies, and review processes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this case, the film was intended to be satirical in tone and considered to be editorially justifiable within the context of the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognise that audiences may respond differently to creative content and hold a range of views about how it is presented.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the judges critiqued the film during their assessment, and that feedback was included in the program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Sky News host Andrew Bolt questioned why the ABC allowed the segment to air and has accused the broadcaster of failing to act after the broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That obscene and vicious rant, that pornographic vision of violence, which the ABC must have seen in advance &#8230;
