A man has allegedly been caught speeding while drunk through Melbourne\u2019s western suburbs on bare rims.<\/p>\n
The 39-year-old sent sparks flying while driving through Tullamarine on Wednesday evening in his SUV, as three of the four wheels were only on their rims.<\/p>\n
Footage obtained by 7News shows the SUV barrelling down the road, with large sparks flying onto the road and through the air. <\/p>\n
The incident was reported to police, who found the car still on fire about 1.30am on Thursday outside the man\u2019s Deer Park home on Bentley Drive. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver was removed (from) the vehicle and the fire was extinguished,\u201d a police statement read. <\/p>\n
The man was taken to a police station for questioning and allegedly returned a blood alcohol result of 0.215 \u2013 four times the legal limit. <\/p>\n
He was released on summons for driving offences. <\/p>\n
Despite being taken to the police station, the man told 7News he couldn\u2019t remember anything about the incident, citing poor health. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just remember having my third drink and that\u2019s basically it after,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if I had more, I think I had more because I\u2019m still feeling under the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n
The man said he was \u201cpretty ashamed\u201d of himself, and he was often critical of other motorists who broke the law. <\/p>\n
\u201cI watch the news and I\u2019m just like \u2018what d**kheads\u2019 and stuff, and just to see that, I\u2019m pretty embarrassed,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The man said it was lucky he managed not to injure anyone during the late-night joy ride. <\/p>\n
\u201c(I\u2019m) pretty ashamed of myself, I guess,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just glad I didn\u2019t hurt anyone\u201d.<\/p>\n
