{"id":58495,"date":"2026-07-26T04:25:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T04:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/58495\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T04:25:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T04:25:16","slug":"i-attend-a-lot-of-dinners-anthony-albanese-evasive-over-point-piper-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/58495\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;I attend a lot of dinners&#8217;: Anthony Albanese evasive over Point Piper dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has attempted to skirt questions about his attendance at a dinner hosted by a billionaire family accused of funnelling money from China, saying he attends &#8220;a lot of dinners&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Earlier in the week, reports by Nine newspapers revealed Mr Albanese had attended the dinner at the mansion of 25-year-old Felix Lee in Point Piper, Sydney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Lee&#8217;s father, Phillip Dong Fang Lee, faces allegations of deceiving the Australian Tax Office (ATO) about his holdings in order to channel huge sums into Australian bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Speaking to the ABC&#8217;s Insiders on Sunday morning, Mr Albanese evaded directly referring to the dinner, stating he attends &#8220;a lot&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Pressed on his inability to answer, he said, &#8220;You just said that that occurred.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I attend lots of dinners in lots of places, and I don&#8217;t talk about private dinners,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-10-20\/climate-200-donations-millions-blocked-election-reforms\/105910960\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Election laws would have blocked millions from Climate 200<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Climate 200 would have been blocked from making $8.34 million in donations to independent candidates if new election donation laws were in place at the 2025 poll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Other prominent figures were reportedly in attendance, including Commonwealth Bank CEO Matt Comyn and former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Albanese said he was not aware of the money funnelling concerns surrounding Mr Lee senior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Lee and his wife, Ziaobei Shi, are not new to scrutiny. The ATO pursued the pair for $273 million in unpaid taxes in 2021, freezing their assets before reportedly settling the following year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;He wasn&#8217;t there \u2026 I attend a lot of meetings, functions, with lots of people. I mean talking about people&#8217;s relatives, even removed from that,&#8221; Mr Albanese said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We declare all of our donations in accordance with the rules, we&#8217;re transparent about it.
