A woman has been stabbed, and a man has died in a head-on crash just minutes later in Tasmania\u2019s north in two horrific incidents that police believe are linked. <\/p>\n
Police were called about 4.30pm on Friday to a home on Main Road, Exeter after reports a woman had been stabbed.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur initial investigations indicate the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman,\u201d Detective Inspector Stuart Greenwood said.<\/p>\n
The woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n
A fatal crash that occurred around 10 minutes later is believed to be linked to the stabbing, Detective Greenwood said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand the man involved in the Exeter incident left the address in a blue Skoda and was subsequently involved in a head-on collision with a blue Nissan Navara on the West Tamar Highway at Legana shortly before 4.40pm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmergency services attended the crash, and the man, a 42-year-old from Western Australia, was pronounced deceased at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sole occupant of the Nissan Navara, a woman in her 30s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. She is believed to be in a serious condition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. <\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigators from multiple specialist areas are continuing to conduct inquiries, and our thoughts are with the injured women, their loved ones and everyone affected by these distressing events,\u201d Detective Greenwood said.<\/p>\n
