Melbourne radio host Tom Elliott has hit out at Australia\u2019s political leadership, claiming the nation is being \u201crun by idiots\u201d.<\/p>\n
Victoria\u2019s Labor government was the chief target of the 3AW morning host\u2019s spray, but the federal government and the Reserve Bank of Australia also received a serve.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are being run by idiots. The Reserve Bank is stupid. The state government is stupid. The federal government doesn’t really know what it is doing either,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The comments came after the Victorian government handed down a debt-laden budget on the same day the RBA hiked interest rates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you are an ordinary person, and most of us are, yesterday was an unmitigated disaster,\u201d Elliott said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a state government budget that has got so many holes in it, so many half-truths, so much debt.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fastest growing line item in the state government’s budget that was released yesterday is interest payments. They\u2019re going to go up 50 per cent in the next four years.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we’re being governed by idiots.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elliott then aimed his fire on the Reserve Bank of Australia and the federal government.<\/p>\n
\u201cMichele Bullock, the head of the Reserve Bank, she also put up interest rates to try and slow down the economy. As if high fuel prices weren’t doing that,\u201d the radio host said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then she blamed Jim Chalmers for not restraining his spending. And he said, no, no, that’s not right.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe deserve better from our political leadership, and I am talking about the Prime Minister, the Treasurer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m talking about the head of the Reserve Bank of Australia, who appears to have very little understanding of economics.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m talking about the Victorian State Government. The only thing it seems to know how to do is to spend money like it’s going out of fashion, and then to increase our taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n
