Less than a week after Netflix confirmed that production on Extraction 3<\/a> was underway in NSW, another action thriller penned by David Weil is reportedly coming to film in the state.<\/p>\n

According to multiple sources, David Gordon Green\u2019s Supermax, starring Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb, is set to begin production in Sydney in August, with the shoot expected to run through November.<\/a><\/p>\n

Directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Weil and David J. Rosen, Supermax follows two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world\u2019s most secure prison. <\/p>\n

Deadline reported in May<\/a> that Amazon MGM Studios closed a deal worth around $US70 million for worldwide rights to the Miramax project, with the film to have a streaming release on Prime Video rather than a theatrical one. Last week<\/a>, the publication announced Robb has joined the cast as Smith\u2019s partner, a young FBI agent who accompanies him into the prison to investigate the murder.<\/p>\n

The Picture Company\u2019s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman produce alongside Smith and Adam Fishbach for Smith\u2019s Westbrook, with Weil and Rosen also executive producing alongside associate producer Natalie Laine Williams. Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, president of film Alexandra Loewy, chief operating officer Thom Zadra and senior vice president Spencer Ela also executive produce. CAA Media Finance brokered the deal between Amazon and Miramax.<\/p>\n

Smith has largely disappeared from feature films over the past few years following the 2022 Oscars slap incident<\/a> with the exception of 2024\u2019s Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, which grossed more than $US400 million worldwide. In the interim, he has turned his attention to music, releasing his fifth studio album, Based On a True Story, in March last year, while also serving as an EP on Cobra Kai, Bel-Air and Pole to Pole with Will Smith.<\/p>\n

Robb, whose early roles included playing teen surfer Bethany Hamilton in 2011\u2019s Soul Surfer and a young version of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries, can be seen in drama series Grosse Point Garden Society has a lead role in Peter Farrelly\u2019s I Play Rocky, the true story of Sylvester Stallone\u2019s real-life struggle to write and star in Rocky, which will be released in Australia on January 1 next year.<\/p>\n

Supermax is the latest in a series of high-profile productions to film in NSW this year, alongside The\u00a0Big\u00a0Fix<\/a>, Greyhound 2<\/a>, and Kockroach<\/a>.<\/p>\n
