{"id":60595,"date":"2026-07-29T03:41:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T03:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/60595\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T03:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T03:41:10","slug":"work-begins-on-aukus-enabling-defence-hq-at-sas-lot-fourteen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/60595\/","title":{"rendered":"Work Begins on AUKUS-Enabling Defence HQ at SA\u2019s Lot Fourteen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction has begun on the heart of central Adelaide\u2019s Lot Fourteen innovation precinct that will play a vital role supporting nuclear submarine construction under the trilateral AUKUS defence pact.<\/p>\n<p>To be known as Defence HQ, the <a data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.theurbandeveloper.com\/articles\/lot-14-fourteen-innovation-centre-scap-approval-north-terrace-adelaide-sa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theurbandeveloper.com\/articles\/lot-14-fourteen-innovation-centre-scap-approval-north-terrace-adelaide-sa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">11-storey building near the Adelaide botanic garden<\/a>, off North Terrace received development approval on July 7. The South Australian government said the building would be a hub of defence, space and critical technologies and support AUKUS.<\/p>\n<p>SA Premier Peter Malinauskas said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theurbandeveloper.com\/articles\/aukus-submarine-pact-property-development-opportunities-amc-henderson-scope-property-business-parkwa-osborne-sa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.theurbandeveloper.com\/articles\/aukus-submarine-pact-property-development-opportunities-amc-henderson-scope-property-business-parkwa-osborne-sa\" data-mce->AUKUS, under which nuclear subs will be built at a $30-billion plant at Osborne near Port Adelaide<\/a>, would be a once-in-a-generation opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefence HQ strengthens Lot Fourteen\u2019s position as a powerhouse of defence, space and critical technology capability, helping create the jobs and industries of the future here in South Australia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>BAE Systems Australia will establish its SA headquarters at Defence HQ. The facility will connect to BAE\u2019s operations at Osborne, the Edinburgh defence precinct, the Tonsley innovation district and Findon technical college.<\/p>\n<p>Defence HQ will also house the $60-million Australian Defence Technologies Academy, a $24.5-million innovation hub to be led by Adelaide university and a $20-million Spacebase funded by the SA government.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785296470_382_Lot_14_looking_west.jpg\" alt=\"An external rendering of the Lot Fourteen Innovation centre in Adelaide.\"\/>\u25b2 Work has begn on Defence HQ [right] at Adelaide\u2019s Lot Fourteen precinct.<\/p>\n<p>Australian-owned contractor Built will construct Defence HQ.
