CCTV has captured the wild moment two children merrily skipped down a busy Melbourne road after escaping from their kindergarten, with an investigation now afoot.<\/p>\n
The young children can be seen skipping down St Georges Rd in Fitzroy North just after 11am on Monday, with baffled members of the public watching them run off.<\/p>\n
Nine News reports the children had escaped from the nearby Isabel Henderson Kindergarten by slipping through the fence, sparking a major search.<\/p>\n
One witness told the broadcaster she was asked if she had seen the two children, to her confusion.<\/p>\n
A parent of one of the children phoned the kindergarten after the pair arrived at home, where they sat down to watch the film KPop Demon Hunters.<\/p>\n
Police were also called.<\/p>\n
It is understood neither child was harmed.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority said they were investigating the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201c(We) won\u2019t hesitate to take strong action to protect the safety, rights and best interests of children,\u201d a spokesperson from the regulator said.<\/p>\n
\u201cParents have every right to expect that their children are actively supervised at all times while in education and care services.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the active investigation, we won\u2019t be commenting further until we have finished this work.\u201d<\/p>\n
The director of the kindergarten, Anna Tibb, told The Age the centre had launched their own internal investigation and were working with authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is really devastating for the families involved and for us,\u201d she told The Age.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are a very transparent and open organisation, and we take these things very seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
