daycare proposed for vacant site next to Eglinton shopping centre on Imperial Entrance, Marmion Avenue

Plans have been unveiled for a new childcare centre in Eglinton that could cater for up to 98 children as the rapidly growing suburb continues to take shape.

Nurture Early Learning is seeking approval to construct a childcare centre, valued at $2.8m, on a vacant block of land beside the new Eglinton Village shopping centre on Imperial Entrance and Marmion Avenue.

The centre is expected to provide care for children aged up to five, operate weekdays from 6.30am-6.30pm, and include a 34-space carpark.

The Eglinton centre would be Nurture’s fourth in Perth if approved, with the provider currently operating two centres in Victoria Park, and one in Murdoch.

The development application report describes the proposed childcare centre as an “innovatively designed building” within an emerging neighbourhood centre.

“The centre will provide essential early learning and care services to a growing population in the surrounding area,” the report said.

“The proposal will establish a well-designed childcare facility on ideally located land which interfaces with a local shopping centre and public open space.

“The facility will be highly accessible to families in the local area and throughout the wider catchment by virtue of its location fronting Marmion Avenue and connection to the adjoining shopping centre.”

About 43.5km north of Perth’s CBD, Eglinton is one of Perth’s fastest-growing suburbs, with its population estimated at around 9000 residents — up from 3838 in 2021.

This growth is only expected to continue, with the State Government earlier this year releasing 135ha of land across two sites in Eglinton, adjacent to the established Allara estate, for future residential development.

There are only three childcare centres operating in Eglinton, with a fourth due to open shortly on the corner of Eglinton Boulevard and Leeward Avenue.

Public consultation on the Nurture proposal through the City of Wanneroo closed on Thursday, July 30, with the application now awaiting determination by the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel.

Plans have been
