{"id":61049,"date":"2026-07-29T19:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T19:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/61049\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T19:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T19:32:09","slug":"v8-supercars-kostecki-chases-maiden-home-victory-as-wanneroo-hosts-penultimate-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/61049\/","title":{"rendered":"V8 Supercars: Kostecki chases maiden home victory as Wanneroo hosts penultimate event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The 2026 Supercars Championship returns to Wanneroo Raceway this weekend, and hometown favourite Brodie Kostecki is in red-hot form as he chases his first victory on home soil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The 28-year-old, originally from Ballajura, has won six races this season \u2014 more than any other driver \u2014 including a dominant victory in the Townsville 500 earlier this month, and sits third in the championship standings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">With momentum on his side, this weekend shapes as Kostecki\u2019s best chance yet to claim a maiden Supercars victory at the circuit where he grew up racing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Speaking after his Townsville victory, the 17th of his Supercars career, Kostecki said it would be \u201creally nice\u201d to break through for his first Supercars win at Wanneroo Raceway, but admitted it would not come easily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe\u2019ll have to see how we go. (the track\u2019s) a really odd place, it requires a different car to make speed around there . . . It\u2019s very flowy, it\u2019s very car-dependent . . . It\u2019ll be interesting to see how it goes there. Generally you see odd cars up towards the car front, with different set-up philosophies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe\u2019ll see if we can nail it. It\u2019d be really cool to get a win on home soil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">As Wanneroo Raceway prepares to hand the Supercars baton over to the new Perth Park circuit in 2028, this year\u2019s event is likely the second-last time the track will host the V8 championship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Running from Friday, July 31-Sunday, August 2, the event will see the return of the Super 440 format introduced last year, featuring two 120km sprint races on Saturday and a 200km refuelling race on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Friday\u2019s Supercars program begins with two practice sessions from 3pm before the championship action ramps up on Saturday with qualifying from 9.45am, followed by two 50-lap Supercars races at 12.45pm and 4.20pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The final day of racing kicks off with Supercars qualifying at 11am, followed by the top-10 shootout at 11.45am, culminating in the 200km, 83-lap feature race at 3.20pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Motor racing fans and families can also expect a packed weekend of on-and off-track entertainment alongside the Supercars action, with support categories including Super2 Series, Radical Cup Australia, V8 SuperUtes and the Trans Am Championship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Paddock access, driver signing sessions, food trucks and interactive displays will also be running throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Gates will open at 7.30am each day.
