A long-term Bondi Beach resident has opened up about the absurd reality of high-density Sydney living, revealing how life in her once quiet apartment block has devolved into something of a surveillance war. <\/p>\n
Sarah*, who has been a tenant in the apartment complex for 14 years, says her peaceful life in Bondi has been shattered after receiving a formal warning letter from her Owners Corporation.<\/p>\n
The letter, dated June 25, 2026, issued a formal warning regarding \u201cexcessive noise\u201d emanating from her unit, along with an unusually specific allegation: that she was repeatedly throwing toys for her dog to retrieve late at night.<\/p>\n
The official correspondence warned that the noise was interfering with neighbours\u2019 \u201cpeaceful use and enjoyment\u201d of the common property, demanded an immediate end to the disturbance, and also accused her dog of leaving waste on the common property.<\/p>\n
For the Bondi mum, the claims were baffling – particularly as her dog is elderly and blind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI simply don\u2019t recognise the household it describes,\u201d Sarah told news.com.au. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m the mum of a six-year-old girl, and like any child she has moments of excitement, but we\u2019re generally a very quiet household. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re usually winding down for bed around 8:30pm.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for the late-night games of fetch the letter insinuates, she immediately shut that claim down. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur dog is elderly, blind, recently had all of his teeth removed, and had a bout of pneumonia,\u201d Sarah explained. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe simply isn\u2019t physically capable of the behaviour described.\u201d<\/p>\n
GoPros, lounge cameras and a plot twist<\/p>\n
The letter also went on to claim that Sarah allegedly let her dog urinate and defecate on common property. <\/p>\n
Determined to defend herself, the Bondi local took a rather extreme measure – wiring up her unit with security cameras and equipping herself with a GoPro for daily dog walks.<\/p>\n
The video footage quickly delivered an unexpected plot twist regarding who may actually have been responsible for the backyard mess.<\/p>\n
Sarah said there is a cat belonging to another resident that \u201cwanders around the building and uses the backyard as a toilet.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually saw him doing his business in the backyard and even got it on camera. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo I can now prove it\u2019s not actually my dog leaving the whoopsies \u2014 it\u2019s their cat.\u201d <\/p>\n
Anonymous notes, police calls, and the Airbnb shift<\/p>\n
The ongoing feud marks a dramatic shift from Sarah\u2019s early years in the building, where she shared Christmas drinks with neighbours and babysat local children.<\/p>\n
Things began deteriorating in 2018 while she was pregnant with her daughter. <\/p>\n
The situation has since escalated to include anonymous mailbox notes, distressing false reports to authorities claiming her young child was left home alone, and eventually an apprehended violence order (AVO) involving a resident\u2019s associate.<\/p>\n
More recently, short-term holiday rentals in the block have added fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n
Sarah claims the neighbour who is complaining about the apparent noise bought the apartment next door to turn it into an Airbnb. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere are people in and out of there constantly, and they are noisy and show no care toward the residents,\u201d she noted, suspecting the complaints are a deflection.<\/p>\n
Since receiving the formal complaint from strata, Sarah made a complaint of her own to a neighbour after the resident\u2019s son was allegedly walking past Sarah\u2019s window late at night, singing loudly with his friends. <\/p>\n
Sarah messaged the resident, explaining that her daughter was unwell and becoming increasingly upset by the noise. <\/p>\n
She hit back, responding, \u201cMaybe pull the curtains if you don\u2019t want people looking in? I\u2019ll speak to him, but he is an adult, so feel free to do that yourself also\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u2018Kindness, respect, and open communication\u2019<\/p>\n
Despite the ongoing drama, Sarah says her real estate agent has been fiercely supportive, warning troublesome neighbours that harassment could lead to court action.<\/p>\n
She remains close with two of the building\u2019s other residents who are even her daughter\u2019s godparents.<\/p>\n
While Sarah acknowledges apartment living requires compromise \u2014 admitting her dog has occasionally slipped out the front door in the morning \u2014 she believes formal strata complaints are being weaponised instead of having simple neighbourly chats.<\/p>\n
\u201cLiving in an apartment block means sharing a community,\u201d Sarah said. <\/p>\n
\u201cNone of us are perfect neighbours, but I believe kindness, respect, and open communication should always come before assumptions or formal complaints.\u201d<\/p>\n
