Hughes (#118 Chevrolet Camaro) took his first Trans Am win after a lengthy battle with Hazelwood (#1 Ford Mustang), holding off the reigning champion by 0.8s.<\/p>\n
James Moffat (#34 Camaro) came home a distant third, holding off Tim Blanchard (#10 Mustang) and Jack Smith (#11 Camaro).<\/p>\n
Blake Tracey got the jump over Hazelwood at the start, who fought back on the inside of the first corner to take the lead.<\/p>\n
As Hazelwood set about building a gap at the front, the battle for the top five became feisty between several key contenders.<\/p>\n
Moffat and Hughes came together through Turn 6 on the opening lap, as Tracey slipped back into the pair\u2019s grasp.<\/p>\n
Tracey and Hughes made wheel-to-wheel contact on the run through Turn 2, sending both cars sideways and Hughes fishtailing through Turn 3.<\/p>\n
Blanchard worked his way into the battles with Tracey and Moffat, which continued for several laps, allowing Hazelwood and Hughes to run away comfortably at the front.<\/p>\n
Nathan Herne suffered through a race to forget. After starting outside the top 10, the two-time champion worked his way back onto the back of the top five before a spin dropped him back down to 14th.<\/p>\n
Working his way back through the pack, he was again spun at Turn 6 after contact from Elliot Barbour.<\/p>\n
As the battle for third settled, Hughes set about chasing down the leader as the damp track continued to dry.<\/p>\n
Reeling in Hazelwood over several laps, the reigning TA2 champion had multiple attempts at the lead before eventually seizing it with a great run through Turn 6 with only two laps remaining.<\/p>\n
Tracey (#5 Mustang) battled an ill-handling car to finish sixth, ahead of Lachlan Evennett (#8 Camaro) and Ben Bargwanna (#97 Mustang).<\/p>\n
Clay Richards (#4 Mustang) came home in ninth, with Herne (#29 Camaro) battling back to round out the top 10.<\/p>\n
The Trans Am Cup Series returns for a third and final race on Sunday at 12:40pm AWST.<\/p>\n
V8 SuperUte Series<\/p>\n
Local Anthony Jewell (#28 Mitsubishi Triton) took his first series win in the reverse grid Race 2, taking the lead away from Sean Evans (#33 Triton) on the final lap.<\/p>\n
Evans started on pole with the top nine being reversed from the Race 1 finishing order, and led the majority of the race.<\/p>\n
Adam Marjoram (#15 Isuzu D-Max) raced through to third, ahead of Rossi Johnson (#333 Holden Colorado), and Jack Westbury (#29 Triton) rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n
The safety car was deployed on the second lap when last-minute addition Michael Clark found himself in the Turn 7 sand trap with damaged steering.<\/p>\n
Evans led the field away at the restart while the battle for second position grew to five cars.<\/p>\n
Justin Ruggier got away with a pair of close moments, including a missed gear that saw Westbury and Jewell forced to take to the grass at Turn 3 to avoid.<\/p>\n
A lap later, Ruggier ran wide through Turn 3, dropping further to seventh.<\/p>\n
Luke Webber got stuck in the sand trap at Turn 7 on the penultimate lap.<\/p>\n
Simultaneously, Jewell took the lead away from Evans at Turn 6, taking the win by 0.9s a lap later.<\/p>\n
The V8 SuperUte Series returns for Race 3 on Sunday at 9:15am AWST.<\/p>\n
Radical Cup Australia<\/p>\n
Chris Reindler took the win in an incident-plagued Race 2, leading home young charger Isaac McNeill by 0.87s.<\/p>\n
Peter Paddon came home in third, ahead of Brad Russell, with Clint Hancock rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n
Trouble started before the green flag even waved when Race 1 winner Mason Harvey pulled to a stop on the formation lap.<\/p>\n
The first and only safety car was deployed shortly after the green flag waved when Peter Clare spun into the outside wall as the lights went out.<\/p>\n
After a lengthy recovery to clear debris from a gap in the fence, Reindler led the field away at the restart while Tony Mercer struggled for grip behind.<\/p>\n
Mercer slipped outside the top five in the laps that followed, before the chequered flag was waved with 1m49s remaining on the clock when George Sinclair and Cohen Jackson each found the sand trap in separate incidents.<\/p>\n
